Baseball training has changed and it’s honestly pretty fascinating to watch. Back in the day, most baseball players didn’t really train. There was almost a dogma against it. You played your sport, you threw, you hit, and that was it. Now, as velocity numbers keep climbing and more athletes are touching the high 90s, there’s a much deeper understanding of what the body actually needs to perform. Strength alone isn’t enough. Neither is flexibility by itself. Modern baseball demands mobility, elasticity, strength, and power all working together. That’s why you’re starting to see baseball players train in ways that look more like gymnasts, wrestlers, and movers than traditional bodybuilders. The goal isn’t just to be strong it’s to be explosive, resilient, and able to move well through large ranges of motion. This hasn’t fully caught on at the major league level yet, but in the minor leagues, college, and high school systems, athletes are becoming much more open to diverse ways of training their bodies and it’s very cool to see. In this clip, @kirkspitchingperformance is training unique qualities of strength, elasticity, power, and mobility that directly carry over to throwing harder, moving better, and feeling better on the mound. The role of the front leg is to stop that forward momentum so the back hip can continue to accelerate.
