How did we spend our snow day? Our team was busy doing what we do every single day; caring for wildlife! 💚 ❄️ Snow days don’t pause wildlife rehabilitation. Animals still need their medications, meals still need to be prepared, enclosures still need to be cleaned, and patients still need careful monitoring as they recover. From feeding baby wildlife to answering phone calls and admitting new patients, our team worked to make sure every animal in our care received the support they need. Because for wildlife in rehabilitation, every day matters. January 2026 was officially our busiest January yet! Since January 1st 2026, our team has admitted 87 wildlife patients, including songbirds, bats, snow geese, crows, rabbits, squirrels, and more. These animals arrived sick, injured, displaced, or orphaned and in urgent need of care. Even in what is typically considered a slower season, we’re admitting multiple animals every single day. Behind the scenes, this level of response comes with significant and ongoing costs. From food, diagnostics, and medical supplies to biohazard handling, disinfectants, recovery space, and skilled and licensed rehabilitator labor, our team is working daily to ensure every patient receives the care they need to recover. We are deeply grateful to our staff, volunteers, referral partners, and supporters who make this lifesaving work possible. A full-circle moment for this ring-billed gull! Just a few days ago, we shared the story of a gull who arrived in critical condition after becoming tangled in discarded fishing line. We have watched her grow and slowly regain her strength, and today, we’re starting March with some good news: she’s been successfully released back into the wild! Watching her take flight again is a powerful reminder of why wildlife rehabilitation matters. Every rescue, every recovery, and every release is made possible by the people who care about protecting our environment and those who live in it. But for every animal that is released, many more arrive needing help. **Update: After calling and speaking with various foundations/agencies, a lovely man named Casey came from Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Casey was able to carefully transport this beautiful creature(Red-tailed Hawk) to a nearby foundation—We believe the Birds of Prey foundation in Broomfield, CO. He said she(he thinks it’s a she but wasn’t 100% positive) felt well fed, but that it was good that we reached out after it had been in our yard for 24 hours. He said that that was the perfect amount of time to wait, and that we did everything right. Thank you Colorado Parks and Wildlife! You were so gentle and kind and it feels so good to know there are services and foundations like this out there to take care of these beautiful animals. 🥹 **Second Update: Casey texted us a few hours later saying, “I thought you might be interested. Birds Of Prey determined she had collided with something has a little bit of a head injury and a small fracture in her wing. No signs of avian influenza so that’s not a concern. They think that they can remedy. Hopefully she’ll be back in the wild before too long.” 💛 I will continue updating if we get any more updates. 🫶 #2026

Removing and relocating wildlife is usually a death sentence and at this time of year likely to create orphans. Our message won't change. If you reach out, please remember we are volunteers feeding dozens of orphans daily now, and listen to the information we can provide to help you co-exist. Please be kind.
