Our local Wrightwood community got a good bit of snow this morning. While chain control is no longer active, there’s still the potential for snow and ice. Slow down, leave extra following distance, and bringing chains is a good plan. Have a great weekend and if you’re making a trip up to the mountains to play in the snow make sure to check the Caltrans Quickmap for up to date road conditions.

🌨️ Have you heard we’re expecting a mix of rain and snow in #BigBearLake tomorrow? New snow accumulation of less than a 0.5 inch is possible, according to the National Weather Service (@nws). A #FlashFloodWatch in effect from 5:00 AM - 5:00 PM tomorrow, October 14th.⁠ Heavy rainfall rates of 0.30 to 0.70 inch per hour are expected up to and during the period of the watch. Heavy rainfall could trigger flash flooding of low-lying areas, urbanized street flooding, and debris flows in and near recent wildfire burn scars. Patchy fog is also possible. ⁠ 🚜 As a reminder, our Public Works staff and contract support crews only plow City-maintained streets when snow accumulation reaches 3 inches or more, and continue these efforts until streets are cleared. Our partners @caltrans8 are responsible for clearing Big Bear Boulevard (SR-18) and the state highways leading up to Big Bear. ⁠ ⁠ 🗺️ We want to remind motorists to monitor road conditions frequently, exercise caution while driving in the mountains during inclement weather, carry appropriately sized tire chains or cables, and avoid parking on city streets when snow conditions exist - you could be fined or towed. ⁠ ⁠ Know before you go ➡️ download our app, Big Bear Lake 365. 🔗 Visit “Helpful Links” in our bio to download Big Bear Lake 365 for free on Apple or Android.
