A lot of cancers don’t show up in big obvious ways at first… it’s small changes people brush off. This doesn’t mean you have cancer—but if something feels new, keeps happening, or just isn’t you, it’s worth paying attention to and getting checked. #CancerAwareness #ListenToYourBody #EarlyDetection #HealthEducation #GIDoctor

Check out 5. Here are five more symptoms that can be cancer-related but often have benign explanations part II: 1. Coughing up blood (hemoptysis). Even a small amount of blood in your sputum can be alarming — and it should be evaluated. While it’s most commonly caused by bronchitis, a respiratory infection, or even vigorous coughing, it can also signal lung cancer, especially in smokers or those with prolonged respiratory symptoms. 2. Blood in the urine (hematuria). Seeing pink, red, or brown-tinged urine is startling, but kidney stones, UTIs, and strenuous exercise are far more common culprits than cancer. That said, painless hematuria in particular warrants evaluation to rule out bladder or kidney cancer. 3. A lump or swelling that’s new or growing. Most lumps are benign — lipomas, cysts, or reactive lymph nodes. But a lump that’s hard, fixed, painless, or slowly enlarging deserves attention, as it can represent lymphoma, soft tissue sarcoma, or metastatic disease. 4. Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia). Trouble swallowing is usually tied to acid reflux, esophageal spasm, or a stricture. But progressive dysphagia — especially when it starts with solids and moves to liquids — can be an early sign of esophageal or head and neck cancer. 5. Skin changes that won’t heal. A sore that bleeds repeatedly, a mole that changes shape or color, or a patch of skin that crusts and doesn’t resolve are usually benign inflammatory or infectious conditions. But non-healing skin lesions can represent basal cell, squamous cell, or melanoma — and early detection here is genuinely life-saving. The key is persistence — symptoms that don’t resolve with typical treatments or that progressively worsen warrant medical evaluation to rule out serious causes. Follow for more. During a skin cancer screening exam, I hear this frequently from patients. “That mole has been there forever” “It’s has always looked like that” “My last dermatologist told me it was fine”’ And, it’s not that I don’t believe them, or think their last dermatologist didn’t look at it- they likely did. However, our current skin cancer screening standards are not up to date. The analogy I use is breast cancer. Could you imagine if we only did mammograms on women who found a lump, or the lump was found during their annual wellness check? That would be crazy right? Why, because we know after a certain age, even asymptomatic women need mammograms to screen for breast cancer. Now, think about how we commonly evaluate skin lesions. Very few dermatologists will look at every pink and pigmented spot with a dermatoscope, Focusing, mainly on the spots that catch the attention of their eye. You can’t see what is invisible to the eye, and that’s why dermoscopy is needed on every mole, on every exam. And, if the training isn’t rigorous in this area of medicine, even with dermoscopy something that is cancerous may be checked off as benign. I am trying to change this, so we can reduce deaths from melanoma. Share this message if you want to help me change the standard for skin cancer screening. #melanoma #breastcancer #cancerscreening #skincancer #earlydetection

Tomorrow I go in for basal cell carcinoma surgery on my nose. And yes, I am nervous. This is all new to me, and I think what is weighing on me most is the stitching, how big it may be, and what healing will look like after. Having surgery on your face feels incredibly vulnerable. 🥹 But I also want to use this moment to remind you: please get things checked. Ask questions. Get second opinions. My shoulder spot was missed by a dermatologist for 2 years — looked at 5–6 times and only treated with cream. If it had been caught properly then, and if a full body check had been done, maybe this spot on my nose would have been found sooner. That part is frustrating, yes. Very frustrating. But here we are. 🤷‍♀️ And now I have to trust God that this will all work out. I've researched my surgeon and feel I will be in the best hands. @dannyguo.md Just praying there will be minimal scarring on the other side of this. 🙏♥️ If nothing else, let my story be your reminder not to brush things off when it comes to your health. Keep advocating for yourself. It matters. 🤍 #BasalCellCarcinoma #SkinCancerAwareness #SelfAdvocacy #WomensHealth #EarlyDetection

⚠️ 9 Common Nail Signs You Should NOT Ignore (Your nails are not just cosmetic — they are powerful indicators of internal health and systemic disease.) Pale or white nails → May signal anemia, low hemoglobin levels, poor circulation, liver disease, or protein deficiency. Often seen in chronic illness and malnutrition. Yellow nails → Common in fungal infections, diabetes, thyroid disorders, chronic smokers, respiratory disease, and lymphatic problems. Persistent yellowing needs evaluation. Blue or purple nails (cyanosis) → Indicates low oxygen saturation, poor blood flow, lung disease, heart disease, or circulatory failure — especially concerning if sudden in onset. Clubbing of nails → Associated with chronic lung disease, congenital heart disease, inflammatory bowel disease, liver cirrhosis, and malignancies. A classic sign of chronic hypoxia. Brittle, thin, or splitting nails → Suggest iron deficiency, hypothyroidism, dehydration, protein deficiency, and micronutrient imbalance (biotin, zinc, magnesium). Dark streaks or black lines → May represent subungual melanoma ⚠️ — a serious and potentially fatal condition that requires urgent dermatological assessment. White spots or lines (leukonychia) → Linked to zinc deficiency, calcium imbalance, low protein intake, repeated micro-trauma, or systemic stress. Spoon-shaped nails (koilonychia) → Strongly associated with iron deficiency anemia, chronic blood loss, malabsorption syndromes, and genetic conditions. Ridges or deep grooves (Beau’s lines) → Appear after systemic stress such as severe infection, high fever, surgery, chemotherapy, metabolic disease, or severe nutritional deficiency. 🩺 Clinical Perspective Nail changes are often early, visible markers of internal disease. They can reflect: Hematological disorders Endocrine and hormonal imbalances Cardiopulmonary diseases Nutritional deficiencies Chronic inflammation Autoimmune conditions Early detection through simple observation can prevent delayed diagnosis and complications. #NailSigns #ClinicalDiagnosis #PreventiveMedicine #MedicalAwareness #EarlyDetection

B= BORDER How do I look for it? Look at the edges of the mole. If you see anything uneven, ragged, notched, or blurred, you should schedule a skin check. A normal mole should have a smooth and well-defined border. A concerning mole may have edges that look scalloped, jagged, or blurry, like the color is "bleeding" or spreading into the surrounding skin. Melanomas do not have normal growth patterns so they grow in an irregular way. This causes uneven, ragged, or blurred borders. Border irregularity works best when combined with the other ABCDE criteria. Stay tuned for tomorrows criteria. The better you know your skin, the better you can share any change or concern with your doctor. #skin #trackyourmoles #dermatology #earlydetection #earlydetectionsaveslives #knowyourskin #skincancer #skincancerawareness #melanoma

This isn’t something I ever imagined for my life. There are moments I feel strong… and there are moments I break. But one thing I know for sure, I’m not staying silent about this. My cancer was missed on a scan. I had to push for answers. And that alone showed me how important it is to listen to your body and advocate for yourself. This isn’t just about me. There are so many young people going through things like this, especially when it comes to health and even fertility, and not enough of us are talking about it. So if I have to walk through this, I’m going to share it. The good, the hard, all of it. If my story helps even one person catch something earlier or ask one more question… it’s worth it. #coloncancerawareness #youngadultcancer #earlydetection #healthadvocate #fyp

Awareness saves lives—don’t ignore what your body is trying to tell you. 6. Unexplained weight loss Losing weight without trying? It may seem like a “good thing,” but it can signal underlying disease, including cancer. 7. Persistent fatigue Not just being tired—this is exhaustion that doesn’t improve with rest. It can be an early warning sign your body is under stress. 8. Changes in bowel habits Ongoing constipation, diarrhea, or a change in stool shape (like pencil-thin stools) shouldn’t be ignored—especially if persistent. 9. Unusual bleeding Bleeding between periods, after menopause, or from the rectum is never “normal” and always needs evaluation. 10. Persistent pain Pain that doesn’t go away or keeps worsening—especially without a clear cause—deserves attention. The rule stays the same: Persistent + unexplained = get it checked. Early detection doesn’t just save lives—it changes outcomes. #CancerAwareness #EarlyDetection #KnowTheSigns #HealthMatters #OncologyEducation PreventiveCare ListenToYourBody
