After befriending Malcom X, the boxing champion announced to reporters that he had renounced the name Clay - citing it as a slave name - and would be called Cassius X. Is It Un-Islamic to Say “Allah is a Man”? No, It Is Not. © Wesley Muhammad, Ph.D. The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad is emphatic that “God is a man, and we just cannot make Him other than a man, lest we make Him an inferior one.” Such a bold teaching disturbs the larger Muslim World, because this teaching flies in the face of the doctrine that has been entrenched in “Old Islam” for a thousand years now. But the Honorable Elijah Muhammad was and is undisturbed by their rejection, declaring: “The ignorant belief of the Orthodox Muslims that Allah (God) is some formless something and yet He has an Interest in our affairs, can be condemned in no limit of time. I would not give two cents for that kind of God in which they believe.” [Muhammad Speaks, November 24, 1972.] In 2025 we the Nation of Islam stand firm on this teaching of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad. We unapologetically affirm it, and we can defend it as both true and as true Islam. Regarding the video clip: This was a lecture entitled “Islam and Africa” given at Howard University, Washington DC, on February 13, 2010. This was thus 15 years ago. The lecture was sponsored by the Howard University Nation of Islam Student’s Association. As you know by now, I never like to make a claim without producing a verifying document to accompany it. Please see the accompanying document, “Is Allah, the God of Prophet Muhammad and of true Islam, a Man? Yes, He Is.”
