This story adds an important layer that often gets left out of the Alberta separation debate. According to the Calgary Herald, several First Nations chiefs openly dismissed the idea that they would be better off in an independent Alberta. Some reacted with laughter when asked about it. One chief described the suggestion as something they could only “laugh at”. That reaction is not just rhetorical. It reflects a deeper legal and political reality. Indigenous nations are not provincial subdivisions. Their treaties were signed with the Crown, not with Alberta, and those agreements do not transfer automatically under any separation scenario. In other words, Alberta cannot simply declare independence and assume First Nations come along with it. This is why many Indigenous leaders see the conversation as unserious. Any proposal that ignores treaty rights, land claims, and Indigenous sovereignty is not a plan. It is a talking point. If separation is being discussed without the consent of the people whose treaties predate Alberta itself, then the conversation is already disconnected from reality. That is what this reaction is really about. #AlbertaPolitics #FirstNations #TreatyRights #CanadianUnity #IndigenousSovereignty

Closing the Gap can’t happen while the colonial system that created it remains unchanged. Across the country, First Nations injustice sits at the centre of Labor’s policy failures—only 4 of 19 National Agreement targets are on track, while 4 are getting worse. This, after 17 years! If the Albanese Government truly wants First Nations justice, it must start by closing the gap within its own racist systems, policies, and practices.

Crazy #mohawkwoman #LAYLASTAATS takes over Toronto City Hall today! I truly believe any employee providing services to the people on any level should have a chance to learn the truth. Two hands raised when I’d asked “whos ever heard of #neskantaga ??” But you should have seen them rise up when you mention walkerton … 30 year boil water advisory for First Nations compared to 10 days for a predominantly white town of Walkerton. Tag your boss if you feel like more learning experiences like this are necessary. #indigeniuseducation #keynotespeaker

🚨 She lived there since 1993. Raised her kids there. Her home was worth $300,000. The government settled a First Nations land claim in Comox, BC. She was told to leave. No compensation. No moving costs. No help. Nothing. And the Liberal government? Watched it happen in silence. This isn’t a one-time story. This is now POLICY in Canada. Land claims can go back hundreds of years. Your neighbourhood could be next. Your investment could disappear overnight. And you will get nothing. 🇺🇸 Meanwhile in the US — federal law PROTECTS property owners. There are legal safeguards. Investors have recourse. This is exactly why savvy Canadian investors are moving their money into US real estate — where your investment is actually protected by law. 👇 Comment “USA” below and I’ll send you my FREE guide to investing in US real estate as a Canadian — before it’s too late. My parents migrated to Australia in the 1950s for a better life. I’m a first generation Australian and I want the date of Australia Day changed because it is a day of mourning for First Nations people, the rest of us are new Australians, from somewhere else, and we owe it to our country to show some respect to the people who were here before us, on the land that we now call home. #australia #australiaday #invasionday #aussie #changethedate

BREAKING: nearly 96% of all MAiD recipients are white. This is extremely concerning, especially considering the fact that white people do not represent 96% of the Canadian population. So the question is: why? Why are so many white people choosing MAiD? Why is this major racial disparity not being studied further by the government? Why is the use of MAiD SIGNIFICANTLY over represented by caucasians? If it were any other race, say First Nations, it would be international headlines. Tens of billions would be spent addressing this. This is the problem with concepts like DEI. It changes the conversation to “only minorities matter and take priority”. This is insane.

🚨 A First Nations band has just evicted over 100 families from a Comox Valley trailer park. They have only 2 years to get out and get zero compensation for their trailers. These people are completely screwed. They thought Queneesh Mobile Home Park was their forever home. Now they’re staring at insane moving costs and most are walking away with nothing after sinking their life savings. “There’s no place to move our trailers to on the Island. We are stuck. We have put our life savings into this trailer, and now we have to leave with nothing. That is ludicrous,” says Kathy Jenkins after 34 years there. Don Cropley (18 years) hits it dead on: “I’m just really appalled at the First Nations for deciding to develop this land when they have a whole bunch of other tracts of land and they’ve chosen to displace all us people.” 37 trailers. Over 100 people. Some still owe big mortgages, one woman still owes $80,000. All because the 50-year lease isn’t getting renewed. As a realtor of 12 years I’ve always thought this form of ownership was ridiculous. I’ve never advised anyone to buy it. I always told buyers I do not expect these leases to be renewed. Property values go higher and the tribes can build whatever they want without zoning or permits. This is the ridiculous nature of it. This isn’t one park. Trailer parks and housing communities all over Canada sit on these native leasehold lands. When the band wants it back, they just don’t renew and you’re done. These people are screwed. Even worse, the band offered to waive pad rent for that time but nothing, not one dollar, for the trailers themselves, which cost a minimum of 20k+ just to get them off the property. And even then, there’s literally nowhere you can put them because on regular land you don’t get permission to even have more than one trailer on a property. The native tribes play by completely opposite rules. We let them charge Canadians rent and sell ownership on land they hold under special privileged rules, not fee simple title like everyone else, then act shocked when they take it back. This can happen anywhere. Fair deal or complete bullshit? Drop it below. 👇

First Nations halt traffic on B.C. highway over ‘disrespectful’ Joffre Lakes closure Members of the Lil’wat and N’Quatqua First Nations held a ceremony, briefly blocking Highway 99 near Pemberton, B.C., on Friday to voice frustration with the province’s plan to limit an upcoming closure of Joffre Lakes Park next month. The park, known as Pipi7íyekw to the Líl̓wat Nation and N’Quatqua, will close to the public from Sept. 2 to Oct. 3 to allow the nations time to harvest and carry out cultural and spiritual practices. The nations had sought a two-month closure, while the province says the one-month period “balances cultural practices, conservation goals and public access to the park.” The nations say the province’s decision ignores their rights and title to the territory. “They’re not honouring or hearing our voices,” Lil’wat Nation lands and resources coordinator Roxanne Joe said, calling the move “a huge disrespectful action.” - Link in Bio #propertyrightscanada #firstnations #housing #canada #politics
