Sometimes the body starts sending signals before anyone says the word kidney. Your labs begin to shift. Phosphorus. Potassium. Calcium. Maybe anemia shows up. Vitamin D drops. You feel tired. Food tastes different. Something just feels off. And the question becomes the same one many people ask at the beginning. Why? Why are these numbers changing? Why do I feel different? Why can’t anyone explain what’s happening? Then one day the picture becomes clearer. Your kidneys may be part of the story. Kidneys quietly control many of those numbers. When they begin to struggle, the labs often show it before symptoms fully make sense. That is why knowing your kidney numbers matters. Ask your doctor two simple questions. What is my GFR — the number that tells you how well your kidneys are filtering? And have I had a UACR test — the urine test that checks for protein leaking into the urine? If you live with diabetes or high blood pressure, these questions are even more important. Many people start changing diets, adding supplements, or cutting foods without knowing what their body actually needs. But kidney care works best when decisions follow the labs. Your numbers become the guardrails. They help guide what needs attention and what does not. Kidney health is rarely about one number or one change. It is the full picture. When you understand your labs, the confusion often turns into clarity. Sometimes the moment comes when you finally say: “Oh… now I see why.” If this helped you understand your kidney numbers a little better, share it with someone you love. Kidney disease affects 1 in 3 adults at risk, and most people do not know their numbers yet.

Most people don’t miss kidney disease because it’s hidden. They miss it because the labs are never put together. Here’s what that looks like: Creatinine slowly going up over time eGFR slowly going down - Protein showing up in urine more than once Blood pressure that stays high A1C that isn’t controlled - Anemia with no clear cause Each one gets treated on its own. No one says kidneys. Until later. If you’re seeing more than one of these, ask directly about your kidney function. Ask for eGFR. Ask for a urine test for protein. That’s how you catch it early. Kidney disease is not something to quietly “watch.” It is something to understand. Start by asking your doctor clear questions. Your health deserves real answers. 🧡 What stage of kidney disease am I in? 🧡 What percentage out of 100 are my kidneys functioning at? 🧡 Do I have protein in my urine? 🧡 If my numbers are low, when should I be referred to a nephrologist (kidney specialist)? 🧡 Do I need to see a urologist for any part of my care? 🧡 What should we be monitoring, and how often will we test my kidneys? 🧡 What can I do right now to help protect my kidney function? 🧡 Are the vitamins or supplements I take safe for my kidneys? If you have diabetes or high blood pressure, those urine and blood tests matter. Protein in the urine can be one of the earliest warning signs of kidney damage. If your doctor says, “we’re watching it,” it is okay to ask what that really means. What are we watching? How often are we testing? What can I do while we are watching? “Just drink more water” is not a full plan. Right now, far too many people reach kidney failure without warning and begin dialysis in a crisis. They never had the chance to understand their options or make decisions about their care. That has to change. When people know their numbers, ask questions early, and work with the right healthcare team, they gain something powerful—time. And time gives people choices. Follow @KidneyFL and share this so more people learn the questions that protect kidney health. Be a good friend. Kidney disease rarely shows up with loud symptoms. Most people feel fine while damage is already happening. Diabetes and high blood pressure are the leading causes, and many people living with those conditions do not realize their kidneys should be checked regularly. Share this with someone you care about this Kidney Month. A simple conversation can make a difference. Two numbers matter: GFR — this tells you the percentage of kidney function left out of 100. UACR — this urine test shows if protein is leaking into the urine, one of the earliest signs of kidney damage. If someone you love has diabetes or hypertension, encourage them to ask their doctor about these tests. Early awareness gives people time to protect their kidneys and make informed choices about their health. Be a good friend. Help someone know their numbers. Like, share, and follow @KidneyFL so more people across Florida learn how to protect their kidney health. The more people we reach, the more lives we can impact. Awareness matters. 💙 #nkff #florida #kidneyhealth #floridalife #kidney

🎥 The Two Tests That Matter 💚 It’s Kidney Disease Awareness Month — and this is your action step. If you want to protect your kidneys, ask your doctor for: 🧪 eGFR – measures kidney filtration 🧪 uACR – checks for protein leakage These two tests can detect kidney damage early — when progression can often be slowed. Don’t wait for symptoms. Don’t assume you’re fine. Awareness without action changes nothing. Testing changes everything. 👇 Comment KIDNEYS for my FREE Daily Kidney Protection Checklist 📌 Save this 📲 Share during March awareness month

🎥 Are You at Risk for Kidney Disease? 💚 March is Kidney Disease Awareness Month — so let’s talk risk factors. You are at higher risk for CKD if you have: ✔️ High blood pressure ✔️ Diabetes ✔️ Heart disease ✔️ Family history of kidney disease Most people with CKD have no early symptoms. That’s what makes it dangerous. Kidney disease often progresses quietly — until it doesn’t. Knowing your risk is step one. Testing is step two. 👇 Comment KIDNEYS for my FREE Daily Kidney Protection Checklist 📌 Save this 📲 Share with someone who has high blood pressure or diabetes

Kidney disease doesn’t rush in. It builds over years—quietly, without pain, without a moment that makes you stop and say something’s wrong. Ten years of high blood pressure. Ten years of diabetes. Ten years of labs being drawn but not fully explained. And then one day, the conversation changes. That’s the part we’re trying to interrupt. Not with noise, but with truth people can actually use. You don’t have to wait for symptoms to take this seriously. You can ask now. You can understand now. You can protect what you still have now. So while the music plays and the moment feels light… don’t miss what matters underneath it. If you don’t know your kidney function, that’s your place to start. Go to kidneyfl.org. Follow and share—because most people don’t know until it’s already been years in the making. #nkff #florida #floridahealth #floridalife

Sometimes people don’t know something is wrong until someone shows them. Kidney disease is often quiet. Most people feel fine. There is no obvious warning and no moment that forces someone to stop and look closer. That is why so many people are living with kidney disease and do not realize it until the damage has already progressed. Awareness changes that. When someone speaks up, shares their story, or simply shows up in a space where kidney health is being talked about, it helps others recognize what they might otherwise miss. 1️⃣ in 3️⃣ adults is at risk for kidney disease, and many have never been told to check their numbers or ask the next question. March is Kidney Month, and communities across Florida are coming together through Kidney Walks to bring kidney health into the open. These walks are not just events. 🚶🚶🏿‍♀️ They are a chance to stand beside patients, families, and caregivers and make this disease visible so fewer people face it alone. Take a moment to learn your numbers and talk with your doctor about your kidney health. 🧡 If this message matters to you, come walk with us and bring someone along. Every person who shows up helps another person learn something they may not have known before. 👯‍♂️ You can find a walk near you at www.kidneyfl.org. ➡️ If this resonates, share it so someone else sees it too. #nkff #florida #floridahealth #awarness #hope

3 Signs Your Kidneys May Be Struggling “Here are 3 signs your kidneys could be under stress: 1️⃣ Swelling in your feet, ankles, or lower legs. This can happen when your kidneys aren’t removing excess fluid properly. 2️⃣ Unexplained fatigue. When kidneys aren’t filtering efficiently, waste can build up in the blood — making you feel tired or weak. 3️⃣ Foamy urine. Persistent foam can be a sign of protein in the urine, which may indicate a filtration problem. Early kidney disease often has no symptoms — so don’t wait for warning signs. Check your blood pressure. Check your labs. Protect your kidneys.
