The RTS is set to open soon by end of 2026. Singaporeans, especially Sembawang West residents, can stretch our dollar. At the same time, many Malaysians staying in Johor but working in Singapore may commute daily via the RTS. This could place additional demand on the TEL MRT and nearby transport infrastructure. Some workers in the Woodlands Industrial Area may also cycle or walk about 2km from the RTS to their workplaces. Shared paths may need to be widened to cope with the increased pedestrian and bicycle traffic. As we look forward to the RTS opening, we must ensure our transport system and infrastructure are ready so that residents’ daily commutes remain smooth. #Singapore #Parliament

Good news for Punggol residents and visitors alike! From 1 April 2026, you can experience autonomous shuttle rides in Punggol, as announced during the Ministry of Transport Committee of Supply debate. You can register online for free rides on Routes 1 and 3, starting 25 March. More than 700 community riders have been invited to take the rides since January, and I’m happy that almost all of them were satisfied with the ride and shared that they would recommend the service to their family and neighbours! We expect revenue service for these two routes to begin from mid 2026. Commuters will be able to board and alight at any stop along either route for a flat fare of $4 per passenger. Grab has shared that it will offer introductory discounted fares for the shuttle services closer to the start of paid rides. Residents can also look forward to time savings of up to 15 minutes and enhanced connectivity when travelling around our neighbourhood. Acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow said changes to the Preferential Additional Registration Fee (PARF) rebate — including lowering the rebate and cutting the cap from $60,000 to $30,000 — reflect reduced need to incentivise early vehicle deregistration as electric vehicle (EV) adoption rises. He said the move is not expected to significantly affect COE renewal behaviour and was implemented immediately to avoid distorting the market. Responding to questions on whether this signals a shift towards usage-based pricing, Siow said Singapore will continue balancing ownership controls with usage tools such as ERP 2.0, adjusting policies depending on congestion outcomes while supporting the transition to lower-emission vehicles.
