Everything to know about the Salkantay Trek👇 If you’re even THINKING about traveling to Peru (especially if you love to hike and want to see Machu Picchu) you need to stop what you’re doing and book this trek immediately!! We spent 5 days and 4 nights with @salkantaytrekking (not spon) and it was seriously one of our top 5 hiking expereinces to date 🥾 The Salkantay Trek begins with a pickup in Cusco where they’ll transport you to the Day 1 trailhead. Everyday you’ll be hiking through the Andean ecosystems, over mountain passes and cloud forests before you end in the town of Aguas Calientes 💧 Everynight we stayed in the most beautiful accomodations complete with HOT showers + king-size beds (yes, in the middle of the wildnerness) ✨ Pillows, sleeping bags, and blankets are all included. The final night you’ll be in a hotel in Aguas Calientes. We paid $650 pp for the Classic 5-day Salkantay Trek and it included all 3 meals a day, accommodation, tickets to Machu Picchu, and the train ride + shuttle back to Cusco. We booked a few months in advance. Definitely bring cash for any extra snacks + drinks at the campsites / family owned pop-ups along the trail (especially on day 3!) The nicest part of this trek was that we didn’t need to carry any of our gear as there are porters that come with the price of the tour. Before the trek they’ll provide a duffel bag that you can fill with your overnight clothes, toiletries, and extra things you’ll need. Just bring a day bag for any hiking necessities. Here’s what we packed 👇 -Merino wool base layers -Shade hoodies -Insulated Jacket -Fleece -Rain Jacket -Poncho -Hiking Pants + Shorts -Merino Wool socks -Beanie + Bandana -Sunglasses -Camera Gear -Hiking Vest -Swimsuit (for optional hot springs) -Passport + Cash -3L water bladders -Sleep mask + ear plugs We’d book this trek all over again and can’t recommend Salkantay Trekking enough! 🇵🇪 Follow @travelersforgood for more outdoor travel and hiking adventures 🌎 #salkantaytrek #machupicchu #hikingperu
