BUNT Scan 🤍 One of the most important early pregnancy scans every mom-to-be should know about.
The NT scan (Nuchal Translucency scan) is usually done between 11 weeks and 13 weeks + 6 days of pregnancy. During this scan, the doctor measures the fluid collection at the back of the baby’s neck. This small measurement gives important clues about the baby’s risk for chromosomal conditions like Down syndrome and certain structural abnormalities, especially heart defects.
Many moms get scared when they hear “screening test.” But remember — NT scan is not a diagnostic test. It does NOT confirm that something is wrong. It only tells you the risk level. Based on the results, your doctor may suggest further tests like double marker test or NIPT if needed.
What to expect during the scan?
✨ It’s an ultrasound — usually abdominal, sometimes internal if visibility is not clear.
✨ It takes around 20–30 minutes.
✨ The sonographer may wait for baby to move into the right position to get accurate measurement.
This scan also checks:
✔ Baby’s heartbeat
✔ Growth according to gestational age
✔ Basic early anatomy
Early pregnancy can feel full of anxiety — especially after previous losses or long waiting journeys. But remember, these scans are there to give reassurance and guide proper care, not to scare you.

The NT–NB scan (11–13+6 weeks) is an ultrasound that looks at early anatomical markers like nuchal translucency and nasal bone.
The Double Marker test is a blood test done in the same period measuring free β-hCG and PAPP-A.
👉 When NT scan + Double Marker are assessed together, it’s called the Combined Test.
This gives a more accurate first-trimester risk assessment for chromosomal conditions, especially Down syndrome, than either test alone.

HEEveryone told me that the 2nd trimester is the best and they were right — I love it here! The morning sickness has mostly disappeared (it’ll come randomly just like once a week), I have my energy back, and all of the anxiety I had during the first trimester is gone. During the first trimester I felt like I couldn’t TRULY feel excited until I hit 12 weeks because that’s what society tells you, and on top of that, all of the genetic testing such as the NIPT test and NT scan gave me a lot of anxiety. Now I am intentionally staying present and enjoying every moment and milestone. It’s such a beautiful journey and I feel so at peace💗🌸🌺
