Is Bombay Beach worth visiting? . . 🔷 Bombay Beach was once a popular getaway for beachgoers until the 1980s, when the draining and increasing salinity of the Salton Sea destroyed the lake's ecosystem and drove businesses away. I made a day trip from Palm Springs to Salvation Mountain (see previous reel) and Bombay Beach (this place) that has bizarre art installations. This town is like a ghost town. I visited on a Sat afternoon in spring and didn’t see anyone on the street. There is toxic algae outbreak in the water and it is smelly on the beach 😷 It’s worth a stop if you visited other places nearby such as Salvation Mountain. Otherwise, I would not drive here just for it. I felt eerie being here.
