CREdith Piaf se enfrentó desde su nacimiento a un sinfín de tragedias y calamidades entre ellas ser una niña de la calle, quedarse embarazada en su adolescencia y que su única hija muriera de meningitis con dos años o que su gran amor, el boxeador Marcel Cerdan, falleciera en un accidente de avión. Pero Edith jamás dejó de creer en el amor. En 1962 al final de su tormentosa vida y cuando menos lo esperaba, se enamoró de un joven de orígen griego. Ella tenía 46 y él era 20 años más joven. Nacido en París, se llamaba Theophanis Lamboukas pero la artista lo rebautizó Théo Sarapo (Sarapo viene del griego que significa te amo) y cambió su profesión de peluquero por la de cantante y actor. Era alto, guapo, afectuoso y vivía pendiente de ella. A pesar de las críticas y el escándalo que provocó su relación, el 9 de octubre de 1962 se casaron por el rito ortodoxo. Él tenía 26 años y era el segundo marido de la cantante. Para entonces Edith ya estaba muy enferma y sus ingresos hospitalarios eran cada vez más frecuentes. Adicta a la morfina y alcoholizada, la artrosis le impedía caminar y tuvo que usar una silla de ruedas. Edith falleció apenas un año después de su boda y a pesar de lo mucho que le criticaron Theo la cuidó hasta el final de su vida y a la muerte de la artista solo heredó cuantiosas deudas. Para pagarlas se vio obligado a seguir actuando en salas de fiestas. Siete años después de la muerte de Piaf, él se suicidó estrellándose con su coche. Tenía 34 años y dejó una nota donde decía : “ Por ti Edith. Mi amor “. Theo Sarapo fue enterrado en el cementerio parisino de Père Lachaise junto a su amada Edith Piaf. En la tumba, donde también descansan los restos de su hija Marcelle, se puede leer “El amor conquista Todo”. ¿Conocías esta historia?
