The idea of “souls” communicating via quantum entanglement is a popular concept in science fiction and metaphysical discussions, but it is important to distinguish between the physical reality of entanglement and the metaphorical application to human consciousness. In physics, quantum entanglement is a strictly mathematical and physical phenomenon. Here is how it works and why applying it to “souls” is a complex leap. 1. The Physics: What is Entanglement? Quantum entanglement occurs when two particles become linked in such a way that the quantum state of one cannot be described independently of the other, even when they are separated by vast distances. • Superposition: Before a measurement is made, particles exist in multiple states at once. • Instantaneous Correlation: When you measure particle A (e.g., its spin), you immediately know the state of particle B, no matter the distance. The “No-Communication” Theorem Crucially, according to the No-Communication Theorem in quantum mechanics, entanglement cannot be used to send information faster than the speed of light. Because the outcome of the first measurement is random, you cannot “force” a specific message to the other side without a classical channel (like a phone call or text) to explain what the measurement means. 2. The Theory: Souls and Quantum Consciousness For souls to communicate via entanglement, the human mind or “soul” would need to operate on a quantum level. This is the basis of the Orchestrated Objective Reduction (Orch-OR) theory, proposed by physicist Roger Penrose and anesthesiologist Stuart Hameroff. • Microtubules: The theory suggests that quantum processes occur within microtubules (protein structures) inside the brain’s neurons. • Non-local Connection: If consciousness is quantum, then two people who are “entangled” (through deep emotional bonds or shared experiences) could theoretically have correlated mental states regardless of distance.
