The NUST Rocket Team @nustrocketteam has long stood as a beacon of innovation and ambition, consistently representing Pakistan on global aerospace platforms. Over the years, the team has participated multiple times at the Mach series of international rocketry competitions held in the United Kingdom. Their efforts have not only highlighted Pakistan’s growing presence in STEM fields but also demonstrated the skill, dedication, and potential of its youth. In 2025, the team proudly returned to the UK to take part in the Mach-25 competition with their pioneering project Rahbar, Pakistan’s first-ever student-developed sounding rocket equipped with a fully functional CanSat system. Months of hard work in design, fabrication, and rigorous testing culminated in a ready-to-launch vehicle that successfully passed all technical inspections. Unfortunately, due to adverse weather conditions, the actual launch couldn’t take place, but the team’s spirit remained unshaken. (Note: The launch video included in this reel is from their Mach-24 participation.) Despite the setback, the NUST Rocket Team was awarded the “Most Dedicated Team” title at Mach-25, a recognition that speaks volumes of their perseverance, preparation, and unyielding passion for aerospace innovation.

How are sounding rockets made? 🚀 At Wallops, we not only assemble and launch sounding rockets, but we also *custom make* about 150 parts for each one! Sounding rockets are uncrewed missions that exit the atmosphere, but do not reach an altitude where they enter orbit, returning back to Earth instead. This allows for short, affordable science snapshots beyond the atmosphere. They carry scientific instruments between 30 and 300 miles above Earth’s surface. To take a sounding means to take a measurement. Instruments on board sounding rockets take measurements in the atmosphere and in space. Sounding rocket launches from Wallops date back to 1945, and they are still launched regularly today.
