SPLIT SQUAT VARIATIONS 🧠 - There are a number of ways someone can perform a split squat to bias certain muscles groups or particular ranges of motion at the pelvis, hip and knee. - Using the example here of a front foot elevated split squat, the most simple way to either get more quads or glutes is changing the torso position and where we allow the knee to move. - For more of a quad emphasis, the torso should stay more upright as we allow the knee to travel further forward over the toes without losing contact with the whole foot and especially the heel. This places more stretch through the quads, allowing them to perform more work. - In contrast, when we hinge the torso over, and keep the knee from going over the toes, this places more stretch on the glutes, allowing them to contribute more to the exercise. - Try each variation yourself and let me know in the comments what you feel 💪 - - - - - #glutes #glutetraining #gluteworkout #fitness #shredded #gym #glutegains #splitsquat #squat #booty #strengthcoach #gluteexercise

Two tips for a better split squat! The split squat is an incredible lower body exercise that hits the quads and glutes hard. If you struggle with this movement, perhaps the following tips will help. 1️⃣Instead of positioning the feet on an imaginary tightrope, think train tracks. The back feet should not be positioned directly behind the front foot; rather, kick it out to the side by roughly 8-14”. You’ll find that this feels a lot more stable. 2️⃣Rather than moving straight down as though you’re going down an elevator, think escalator - forward and down! This helps work the front quads way more. I got this cue from my friend @coachmarkcarroll 😊 (and no, it is not inherently dangerous for the knees to pass the toes). What you choose will depend on your personal preferences and goals. Want to work more glutes in your static lunge (or some call these a split squat)? What about more quads? ⠀ Here is a great side by side difference. The closer your feet are, the more you will feel it in the glutes. If you want to work more glutes take a long stride back and focus on pressing through the front heel. ⠀ To feel it more in the quads let your knee go forward of your ankle. It’s quiet a nice burn and will also help you with ankle mobility! ⠀ Yes, you will feel it in both legs, both muscle groups-quads and glutes, so I like to do one set with a narrow stance and one set with a wider stance. The last set can be more dynamic by stepping back or forward. ⠀ I’ve spent the last 9 months focusing on my legs (the giggle was getting out-of-hand🤣).
