1. I never teach to “just get comfortable” in the water. My students learn lifesaving skills in less than 8 weeks. 2. I never mind when kids cry. A crying baby is a breathing baby. 3. I never treat swim families like transactions. My business isn’t based on volume. It’s about giving 110% to a limited number of families. After 20 years of teaching swim lessons, I’ll never compromise on any of those. 💦 Sacramento parents: Comment MORE to download current lesson info. If your child is upset during swim lessons… these common mistakes might be why and what to do instead 👇 1️⃣ Building too much anticipation before lessons That well meaning pep talk in the car can actually increase anxiety. If your child is already upset before they arrive, this is often why. ✔️ Try this instead: Talk about swim lessons on non swim days, and read swim related books at bedtime when your child is calm. 💬 Comment “BOOK” and I’ll send my favorites. 2️⃣ Hovering during the lesson Sometimes parents presence adds pressure even when they’re trying to help. ✔️ Try this instead: Watch from a distance or out of sight. Many kids relax and participate more when they’re not being watched closely. 3️⃣ Practicing hard skills only at lessons Face wetting, submersions, and back floats can feel overwhelming in a new environment. ✔️ Try this instead: Practice these skills in the bathtub, where your child already feels safe and regulated. 4️⃣ Ignoring environmental factors Cold water, busy pools, or overstimulating class times can make learning harder. ✔️ Try this instead: Choose warmer water, quieter times, and settings that support your child’s nervous system. Swim lessons shouldn’t feel like a battle. When we reduce pressure and build skills calmly, confidence follows. 💙 Share with a parent whose toddler is struggling

It really does matter the type of swim lessons you put your kid into. Because you get what you sign up for. Mommy and me classes teach water acquisition and are playful. They are not meant to teach swim skills. 👶 Group lessons are great if they teach floating as a mandatory prerequisite to move up in levels. They also should never use flotation devices and should give your child opportunities to swim without googles so they can feel what it would be like if they ever fell in without them on. 🤨 remember though group lessons are 30 minutes long your child is sharing that time with other children and their infill instruction is most likely 5-8 minutes total - 1 time / week. 😏 Survival swim lessons with a qualified - reputable instructor - ✅guarantee swim survival skills. 💚Are independent one on one lessons and that focus on your child’s specific needs and abilities. 🐠 give you the parent peace of mind when lesson conclude that your child can do what the 18 month old in this video can do 1 because in the water, seconds matter. If you’d like to try out swim lessons but are not sure where to start message me. 🐠 You still have 1 day to enter the January 2026 swim lesson giveaway! Here’s what I would tell you: You’re making a HUGE safety tradeoff that you probably don’t even know when you use them for swim time and there is a MUCH better option 👀👙 Here’s why floaties are NOT recommended for regular swim time in the pool. Btw, if you’re on or near open water, that’s a different story and life jackets are non-negotiable at all times! Can floaties keep kids heads above the water when they are on? Sure. BUT here are the tradeoffs you need to think about 👇🏼 ⚠️Floaties indirectly teach kids several really dangerous lessons: that they are safe in the water without an adult. That they can “swim” and breathe effortlessly when they cannot. That the water is really fun even when they don’t have any real swim skills. ⚠️Floaties also put kids in a VERTICAL position, also known as the “drowning position” so if they fall in the water, muscle memory kicks in and they get into that vertical position. ⚠️Floaties give parents are false sense of confidence that kids will be okay if anything happens. But floaties come off and kids return to water all the time. ⚠️Kids that wear floaties regularly for swim time in the pool are more likely to return to the water without them because they had so much fun in the water and they don’t understand that they actually can’t swim. Here’s what you’re going to do instead: 👉🏼SKIP the floaties and hold your child in the water at all times. Let them feel what it’s like to now know how to swim and need you in the water. 👉🏼Teach your child they NEVER get in the water without an adult. 👉🏼Enroll in swim lessons at an early age and keep practicing those swim skills every time you go to the pool. 👉🏼And if you need an extra layer of protection while you’re getting ready or packing up, put them in a life jacket while they are on the pool deck, but take it off for swim time. Follow for more tips on how to raise water safe kids! 🫶🏼

Meet my little girl, Bambi. She’s 2 💕 She’s been asking me for high fives all holiday. It’s not just something cute she does. It’s a safety rule we’ve put in place to keep her safe. Like all toddlers, she loves water and she also has a false belief she can swim just like her big sis. I used to be a swim teacher and then a paramedic. I know most drownings happen when kids are not meant to be in the water. I also know that it happens in 20 and that it’s silent. That reality terrifies me. In our family, every child has to high five mum or dad before entering the water. It creates a pause. It makes sure an adult is actively supervising. And it stops those split second moments where assumptions can be dangerous. It doesn’t replace supervision, swim lessons or barriers. It’s just one more layer we use to keep our kids safe around water. Please implement this rule with your our own kids, reinforce it and never let them enter water without a high five from you ❤️

I am #blessed to be in both of these stages 🤍 A Baby Bubbles class is the sweetest introduction to the water. Being in the pool together builds comfort and confidence, and watching my 1.5-year-old light up during class never gets old. But there’s something really special about the shift that happens when you get to step back and let the instructors take over. That’s where we’re at with my 4-year-old. That’s when the lessons really start to stuck. Without me in the water, the instruction just clicks differently. The coaches are patient, encouraging and truly focused on teaching real skills—not just keeping kids busy. It’s wild how fast you go from holding their hands… to sitting poolside and watching them figure it out 🥹 If you’re looking into swim lessons, save this to remember to check out @liquidlifestyles and follow me for more mom finds and family fun. *I received a discount on lessons to make this post. #swimlessons

i get asked so many questions about the difference between a nanny, babysitter, and house manager. what are the expectations?? so i thought i would share what my pay includes. what i am paid to do as a full time nanny ⬇️⬇️ 1. first and foremost, caring for the child. getting him up and ready, feeding him, engaging in developmental play, putting him down for naps, etc. 2. as far as cleaning and other tasks go, i am only in charge of the things directly related to the child. i do his laundry, clean up his dishes, organize and cycle through toys, and clean the floors and surfaces that we’re in contact with daily. 3. i make and meal prep meals that are appropriate for his age and make sure they have all the nutrients he needs daily. 4. i assist with bath and bedtime routine when needed! 5. i transport to and from activities that he has such as swim lessons and doctors appointments. we also make it a priority to get out of the house and experience things that assist in his development such as storytime, the library, and the children’s museum. this is something that’s really important to me and my nanny family but not something that every nanny family is comfortable with! my pay also includes occassional travel and overnights and the 24/7 care that comes with that! we have terms in our contract that outline the extra pay that comes with that. if you’re a nanny, are your expectations similar or different?? #nanny #nannylife #travelnanny #pay #nannytips
