When I first arrived to the top of the mountain, this is the roc at which registration takes place. I gave my name, my energy, my offerings, and my love to this rock who is our ancestor. On land so far away that my light skinned body has not yet been to, I was reminded by the people that I had been h there before. Reminded that I was able to show up in the heart of the world, only because I have already showed up in my own heart. Unlocking this remembrance was a deep message saying to tend to the soil that I stand upon. Soil is Soul, and when it’s alive, so our we. Our human nature requires a healthy relationship with the land to truly thrive. As a girl who owns barely anything. Living in my van in the desert, to care for sacred white sage, this journey reminded me that I’m here to do exactly what the kogi people are doing. Having a relationship with the land and community around them. So no matter where you are, let this be your reminder that you belong, and when you are in relationship with your heart, you can tend to the land, plants, and people where ever you are. Grateful for the sunrise, the clean air, the experiences, and the chance to connect with Country and continue learning my culture. 🌅 Aboriginal people lived in harmony with Country for tens of thousands of years. That deep respect, understanding, and reciprocity with the land is why our people survived and thrived for so long. In the last 250 years the environmental damage has been huge. But every single day we as individuals and as a collective can make conscious choices to do better. Small actions matter. Caring for Country, slowing down, being mindful of how we live and what we take. Those small shifts help ensure future generations can still experience some of the beauty we have today. This is part of the essence of Wayapa Wuurrk — reconnecting with Earth, understanding our place within it, and remembering that when we care for the planet, it cares for us. I am grateful for every moment of this life. ♥️ Some moments arrive with a deeper peace — a soft harmony that fills everything. Here, by the ocean, on the sacred land of Bali, under the warm sun, surrounded by my community, my people… I feel so free, so loved, so nourished. Walking barefoot in the sand with the little one beside me, bathing in pure light and energy. I know these moments will not last forever. Nothing does. We also gather to honor our ancestors & the kūpuna of this ‘āina. We even gather to feel joy & the magic of life as we give gratitude for it all. But, we also gather, to remember & reclaim the medicine that this world needs. In our communion with this technology—that Sobonfu Somé shared with the West—it has become clear to Greg & I, that the true medicine of this space is the cultural healing it provides. In these community Earth-based rituals we are actively remembering what it is to be a village, in its most intimate sense—in the tenderness, authenticity & vulnerability of our grief. We are allowing the spirit of intimacy (as Sobonfu called it) to reclaim •us. In doing so, ritual by ritual, we are decolonizing our minds & community. To heal the diseased cultures of supremacy, hyper-individualism, & colonialism, we need spaces that truly foster meaningful & authentic spiritual connection & honor the authentic pace of healing. We need spaces where all people’s of the Earth can gather & experience the medicine of the village together as one people and one family. We do not need spaces of bypassing where “unity” is an idealized notion of camp fire songs that glaze over the realities of systemic oppression & historical & current government sanctioned genocides. We need spaces of real depth & honesty. Grief & Gratitude. These multidimensional emotions take us deep into the heart of God.
