Welcome to episode 3 of Beyond Lisbon, where I share hikes, day trips, weekend getaways, and hidden gems in Portugal 🇵🇹 Today we’re heading 50 minutes south of Lisbon to the Arrábida Natural Park. This hike is the 📍Cabo Espichel Lighthouse Loop, a 14km circular trail along the dramatic Arrábida Coast. Think sweeping Atlantic views, rugged cliffs, wild rock formations, and that true edge-of-the-world feeling. I know I said the last hike was my favorite… but this one officially takes first place 😮‍💨 Along the route you’ll pass: • Farol do Cabo Espichel, one of Portugal’s oldest lighthouses (late 1700s) • The abandoned Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora do Cabo, an 18th-century pilgrimage site • Ruins like Fort of São Domingos da Baralha • The natural rock arch Arco da Pombeira • Epic viewpoints over hidden coves and beaches like Praia da Baleeira • Optional detours to nearby dinosaur footprint fossil sites 🦕 ⚠️ Important: This is not a beginner hike. The full loop includes narrow cliffside paths with no barriers, steep climbs and descents, and full exposure to wind and sun. Hiking poles were a game-changer for me, especially for stability and knee support. What to know before you go: • Wear proper hiking shoes with good grip • Bring 2–3L of water per person + snacks • No shade or facilities for most of the route Challenging? Yes. Worth it? A sensação é de estar em uma ilha tropical — mas sem precisar sair do continente. 🍴 Dica imperdível: depois de um mergulho, pare no Restaurante Du Portinho, localizado à beira-mar. Peça um peixe fresco grelhado ou o tradicional arroz de marisco e aprecie a vista que mistura o azul do Atlântico com o verde da serra. É o tipo de experiência que define o que é “viver Portugal”. 🚗 Como chegar: a cerca de 50 minutos de carro de Lisboa e 30 minutos de Setúbal.
