Dr. Aston, a veterinarian living in a remote research station, was well-aware that his pet Pallas’s cat, Luna, was not your average feline. With her round pupils, thick silver fur, and a perpetually grumpy expression, she was the queen of the snowy highlands.
One bitter evening, Luna didn't return home for her dinner. Dr. Aston grew worried until he heard a faint scratching at the door. When he opened it, he didn't find a bird or a mouse. Instead, Luna was dragging a small, shivering bundle by the scruff: a joey (baby kangaroo) that had somehow fallen off a transport truck passing through the valley.
An Unusual Motherhood
While Dr. Aston provided the medical care, Luna provided the warmth. Pallas’s cats are known for being solitary and fierce, but Luna’s maternal instincts took a strange turn.
The "Pouch" Substitute: Luna would curl her massive, fluffy tail around the joey—whom Dr. Aston named Roo—to mimic the warmth of a mother’s pouch.
Grooming Lessons: Despite Roo’s lack of fur, Luna spent hours "cleaning" him with her rough tongue, much to Roo’s confused enjoyment.
Protection: If Dr. Aston approached too quickly, Luna would give a low, rumbling hiss, shielding her "long-legged kitten" from any perceived threat.
Growing Up Together
As months turned into years, the sight at the Aston estate became legendary. Roo grew taller than the furniture, his powerful legs designed for the outback, while Luna remained a small, grumpy ball of fluff.
