Please, stop bounding on your toes 🦶 Whether you’re observing Olympians or kids in the playground... humans tend to jump maximally off a flat-foot contact. Bounding in its purest form is a just series of alternate maximal one-foot jumps. It’s not just exaggerated running. When tasked with maximally redirecting large vertical forces and/or braking forces, a flat foot provides a more stable base to deal with high impact, and a more involvement of the posterior chain. When tasked with declarative or ‘absorbing’ actions we see an initial forefoot contact (depth landing or first contact off a hurdle) Additionally as speed increases, ground contact time decreases and this is where we naturally move to a forefoot contact when running and sprinting. Yes, there are exceptions to this rule. Although rare, there are elite athletes that jump from a forefoot touch-down... Do they suffer more lower limb injuries? In my observation, yes. 💡 Here are some key points to help you get the most out of bounding and to mitigate excess stress on your shins, knees and lower back. ➡️ Wind-up pretension by dorsiflexing prior to contact, lead with the heel during negative foot speed toward the ground, flat-footed ground contact. ➡️ Begin swing of the free leg in long extended position allowing a natural pelvis aligned with the spine in a ‘stacked’ joint position at ground contact. Swing the foot of the free leg near to the ground at midstance maintaining extended position of the leg, reducing excess forces at the knee. ➡️ Keep the hips elevated above the knees in flight and avoid conscious cycling of the free leg, encouraging effective pretension in the quads to protect the knee at ground contact. #bounding #plyometrics #athlete #training #trackandfield #athletics #basketball #volleyball #football #longjump #triplejump #highjump

As the runner accelerates, they must be able to increase their turnover rapidly to achieve top speed. ✅Bounds are an exercise that helps athletes generate explosive force and experience how this force translates into speed. 🫡Bent Leg Bounds Bent Leg (BL) Bounds look like an exaggerated stride with a greater knee drive. These bounds are done by driving the knee, while keeping the hips relatively horizontal. When switching legs, quickly drive the knee of the other leg forward. Like SL bounds, the torso should remain upright and arms will be swinging to help generate power. Watching people do these movements, it “doesn’t look that hard”,but then you realize, it “doesn’t look hard” because they have worked at it and have mastered the movement. . Week 6 of still not mastering it, but improvements have been made. ✅😌 . Now it’s time to see if this will transfer to the ice and to a real sled.
