Stop butchering your step-downs and step-ups! 🚫🦵 Generally, if your goal is hypertrophy and/or strength there are two main ways to perform these: knee-dominant and hip-dominant. 💪 Knee-Dominant: For a quad focus, push your knee forward and keep your torso upright. Use a support if needed. Lightly touch the surface with your non-working leg without pushing off. Let the working leg do all the work. 🦵🔝 Hip-Dominant: For glutes/hamstrings, keep your shin at a straight angle and lean your torso forward. This targets your posterior chain. 🍑 Conditioning Step-Ups: In our training plan, we use alternating step-up variations for conditioning, focusing on completing as much work as possible. Your body will naturally find the most efficient way of performing the movement. 🏋️‍♂️ This week, @fitnessacademycommunity members will focus on knee-dominant lateral box step-downs for their strength/hypertrophy focused segments. 👊 #fitnessacademy #fitness #stepdown #stepup

Workout details ⬇️ -5 Rounds, every 4 minutes perform 20,15,10 of prescribed movements and then max box step ups in remaining time -Score is total number of alternating box step ups accumulated over 5 rounds -Shoot for consistent rounds and similar reps on box step ups -Try to get to the box step ups with around 1:30-2 minutes left - I was averaging around 20 box step ups per round but dropped off in round 3-4. They can be easily scaled up and down in difficulty or intensity just by moving your other foot (the one not on the box) forward or backwards You can also change the intensity by letting go of the rig or doorframe creating more balance and strength demands on the hip When choosing exercises tk rehab an injured area, it’s not the exact exercise that really matters but how it matches up with your current needs. Which Box Step-Over Technique is Faster? 🏋️‍♂️ In today’s video, I’m diving into two techniques to make your box step-overs smoother and more efficient. Box step-overs come in many variations, and finding the most effective way to move can really add up in speed and endurance. I’m showing both with just bodyweight and while carrying a dumbbell to show you the differences. 1️⃣ Backward Step-Down In the first variation, I’m stepping onto the box and then stepping back down. This style keeps your steps linear and predictable, so your body can focus on maintaining balance and a steady rhythm. Perfect for keeping a flow if you need control and stability. 2️⃣ Crossing at the Top In this second variation, I step onto the box, cross my trailing foot over, and step down on the other side. This crossover technique is all about momentum. It might look a bit less controlled, but when done right, it can save a little bit of time by using that momentum to carry you forward. . . . #CrossFit #BoxStepOver Each has its own feel and benefits, but which one is the most efficient for you? Forward Step Downs - This is a quadriceps focused exercise and can be progressed with weight or the height of a box, books, or step. 2. Elevated Lunge Deceleration - Focus on a good absorption with soft knee flexion. - Can be progressed with increased weight, height of box, or increased knee flexion. - A great lower impact exercise if you’re coming back from injury. 3. Eccentric Single Leg Squat - Can be progressed by lowering the box height, increasing the weight, or slowing down the movement.
