I really love the intricate and polished look of twisted stitches. They add such a beautiful detail to lace patterns, but I’ve always found that traditional decreases like k2tog and ssk can mess up those clean lines because they aren't twisted. I’ve been spending some time figuring out how to adjust them for my new cardigan pattern so the columns stay perfectly uninterrupted. 🧐 The swatch I’m working on uses some yarn I picked up from @seachangefibers. I am fairly certain I found it at Indie Untangled, and it has been waiting in my stash for the right project. The stitch definition is working out exactly how I imagined it when I bought the yarn. 🧶 I am aiming to get this design ready for a test call in just a few weeks. ⭐️Italian Cast-On (Tubular Cast-On)⭐️ ❤️If you enjoyed this video and found it helpful, please give it a like and save it ❤️ It used to create a neat and elastic edge for 1×1 ribbing. Preparation: - Leave a long yarn tail. - Make a slip knot or wrap the yarn around the needle (as shown in the video). This loop counts as the first stitch. - Position the working yarn behind the needle and the yarn tail in front of the needle. Casting on stitches: Stitches are cast on by alternating purl and knit stitches. 🌟Purl stitch: 1. Insert the needle under the yarn coming from the index finger (yarn behind the needle), 2. Сatch the yarn from the thumb (yarn in front of the needle), 3. Pull up a loop onto the needle. 🌟Knit stitch: 1. Insert the needle under the yarn coming from the thumb (yarn in front of the needle), 2. Catch the yarn from the index finger (yarn behind the needle), 3. Pull up a loop onto the needle. Continue casting on, strictly alternating 1 purl stitch, 1 knit stitch, until the required number of stitches is reached. After casting on: - Cast on the last stitch using a standard method to prevent stitches from slipping off the needle. - Do not tighten the stitches too much - the edge should remain elastic. - After the Italian cast-on, work 2 setup rows of tubular ribbing: knit the knit stitches, slip the purl stitches with yarn in front. I used to think stitch markers were a luxury extra that you didn't really need, but that was when I was knitting everything in pieces and seaming them up. But since I discovered the top-down seamless method for projects like my #layanacardigan, they have become irreplaceable. 🤩 This cardigan is a collaboration with the lovely team from @bar_a_tricot, (the girls at @artfilyarn). I am knitting this version in their Champagne base using the Sandstorm colourway, and the yarn is just beautiful. The stitch markers not only help me stay on track with the texture and shaping, but also helps explain what to do in the pattern instructions. So much less counting and it makes the whole process much more relaxing. 🧡 I cannot wait to share the finished pattern with you very soon. I’m consistent and very familiar with my knitting tension so when knitting with similar weight yarns and same needles sizes, I skip swatching.
