Two ways to take notes using the Cornell method… Method one: 1. In the left hand column, record any questions, vocabulary, main points, and ideas that arise 2. In the right hand column, write the detailed notes that correspond with those prompts 3. Summarise Method two: 1. Record the bulk of your notes in the right hand column, trying to be as concise and topical as you can 2. In the left hand column, reinstate your notes as questions, main points, important vocabulary etc. 3. Summarise Revision tip: Cover the right hand column and use what is in the left hand column as prompts. Can you remember the notes that go with them? It was either copying down everything from textbook (because I thought everything is important!) or blindly highlighting the whole book! But, my note taking game improved drastically after using Capitol AI. Capitol AI helped me take notes that are important and highlight the parts I need in future. How to structure your notes like a first class student🎓. 1. Find a format that works for you - I love the Cornell method! Basically you set up a table on your word document, in the left column you include the headings and sub headings, and then in the right column insert your notes that are relevant to that heading or sub heading. 2. Create checklists - I’m the type of person that needs structure. Therefore, if there is a checklist there that says ‘step 1 is this… if this applies go to step 2’ and so on. This helps with exam answer structure too because the examiner is going to see you followed the correct procedure in applying whatever it is you are writing your exam on. 3. Allocate colours - I like to allocate yellow to key points, orange to case law, pink to statute and legislation, and green is the key important headings. This helps be distinguish what my notes are explaining and also find things within my notes much quicker than if it was just in black and white. 4. Change headings & sub headings to questions - this is a little point, but makes a big difference! For example, if you have a heading that states ‘application’, change it to ‘how is this area of law applied?’. This really helps with getting you thinking applying your answers to the question, rather than just simply regurgitating notes. 5. Summarise and paraphrase your notes - there is so much jargon that you learn throughout your degree at university. Therefore, you want to summarise and paraphrase your notes in a way that is simple and makes the most sense for you when it comes to exams, because as we know textbooks are extremely explanatory. Over the last 4 years, I’ve researched and used all of them to find 8 hyper effective methods which will help you learn faster and get the best grades of your life. Comment “note” and I’ll shoot over my guide. 😶‍🌫️Here’s a sneak peak ;) 🗒️ My three fav note taking methods: 🖖🏽Cornell Method: 1️⃣ Divide your paper into 3 sections. Left: cue, Right: note taking, Bottom: summary 2️⃣ Note taking: write notes regularly 3️⃣ Cue: write questions for each piece of information on the right column 4️⃣ Summary: summarize the lecture 🙋🏽‍♂️Question Method: 1️⃣ Ask one key question per slide 2️⃣ These questions don’t need to be complicated: “What is x” “How does x link to y” “What are the 3 components of x” 3️⃣Focus on writing the questions, after class you’ll answer these questions 🗺️ Mind Map Method: 1️⃣Draw a big circle in the center of the page, with the main lecture topic in the circle 2️⃣Branch off from that main topic into multiple sub topics, which each have their own branches to smaller sub sub topics 3️⃣Add context under each sub topic, at max add 1-2 sentences 4️⃣Use colors, branches, images, and symbols to maximize the use of your right brains creativity instead of just your left brains linearity to foster deeper understanding 💜 Love you guys! #notetaking #collegenotes #howtotakenotes #notes #collegestudent
