This is DeeDee. She’s not overheated or exhausted. The panting & drooling are caused by the stress she feels in her kennel. When she comes out, she immediately becomes a happy, good natured girl. She’s fantastic on a leash & easygoing in the play yards with other dogs. She loves getting pets & hearing what a pretty girl she is. But when it’s time to return to her kennel, she panics. She goes flat to the ground, refusing to move. She usually has to be picked up & carried back. And as soon as she’s in her cage, the anxiety kicks back in. Some dogs are unphased by their kennel space. Some feel safe there. Dee Dee is not one them. It breaks our hearts to see her so distressed when we know the solution. It’s her having a home and never being confined to a shelter cage again. She is around 4 yrs old, 58 lbs & very likely house trained. Please considering adopting or even fostering DeeDee until she is adopted. We are certain she will be the most grateful & ready to please good girl in a home. Help us end her kennel stress & find her the peace she needs🙏🏼💙 #ellijaypawsinneed #saveashelterdog #dogsarefamily

PUPDATE: ADOPTED❤️🎉 🚨 Darline #A2734599 needs our help! 🚨 Recently she was given a euthanasia deadline due to what the shelter describes as severe kennel stress and one incident where she became overstimulated. There was no broken skin, and staff noted she appeared to really like the person handling her, but in a loud, high stress environment, that moment was documented as a pre-bite and labeled a risk if her stress continues to escalate. This is the reality for many sensitive dogs who sit too long behind a kennel door. The shelter is an overwhelming place , with HUNDREDS of dogs, constant noise, confinement, and loss…some dogs simply start to fall apart mentally. Darline had an adopter place a hold … and they never came for her. No rescue has stepped up.
No foster has offered.
And now her time is running out. We do not believe this moment defines who she is outside of the shelter. Dogs often decompress dramatically once they are in a calm home or foster environment. She is a beautiful soul who has been quietly losing herself in the system. If you have ever thought about fostering, rescuing, or networking a dog, this is the moment it matters most. Foster saves lives. Rescue gives dogs a second chance. Sharing reaches the one person who might be hers. Please help us get her seen before it’s too late. Please also tag rescues we cannot pull Darline for foster without a rescue Miami Animal Services

🚨DEADLINE 24 HOURS🚨 Bobby has 24 hours left. Twenty four hours to find someone willing to see past the stress and fear that shelter life has created. Bobby is not a bad dog. He is a dog who has been overwhelmed for too long. When he first arrived, he was confused, alone, and scared. Over time, the constant noise, confinement, and pressure of the shelter environment have taken a toll on his mental health. What we are seeing now is stress, not aggression. Outside of the kennel, Bobby shows who he really is. He is treat motivated, playful, and eager to engage. He knows his commands, walks well once settled, and absolutely lights up when the camera is on him. He wants connection. He wants safety. Bobby does need the right home. He needs to be the only dog. He needs slow, calm introductions and someone who will let him build trust at his own pace. But when he feels safe, his heart comes through. Please share Bobby’s story. Please consider fostering or adopting if you are able. Time is running out, and he is still waiting. 📍

Mini update—Ivy went to playgroup! She is “calm dogs recommended.” Just means she didn’t play! She requires a known history of aggression form due to the small dog incident. I really try hard not to get attached to the dogs with “bad notes,” because in a high-intake shelter, the chances of them making it out are slim. This is Ivy: A dog I failed at not getting attached to who will likely hit the euthanasia list sooner than later. Surrendered for not getting along with the small dogs in the home. She does have some prey drive, and with those notes, a home with small dogs would not be ideal. She exhibited zero reactivity or aggression to other large dogs when being walked through the kennels, but has not been assessed with other large dogs yet. Here are some of the things her owner wrote on the surrender form: -She is a huge lover -She’s a good listener -She loves to go on runs -Loves to be cuddled and in your lap -Lived with young kids -Knows sit, stay, fetch, paw, and to catch items in the air Ivy is not yet available for adoption because she is pending a behavior assessment. She did have a bit of a cough today, so if she is sick, she will not receive an assessment and will remain “rescue only” until she can be assessed. It’s frustrating, I know. I’m not expecting there to be a line of people out the door that want to adopt Ivy, but if you do, you will be saving her life. Ivy deserves to never end up in a shelter ever again. Dogs are lifelong commitments, so if you are not ready to possibly spend 10+ years with Ivy, please don’t adopt her. She needs a real place to call home that is forever. Ivy is 4 years old and 35 lbs. UPDATE: ADOPTED 🎉I wish this wasn’t his story. 💔 Splot is only 1 year old. About 50 lbs. Dog friendly. Loves people. With a deadline of tomorrow, 2/5 at 7 pm. Time stamped. He’s been in the shelter since last July. He came in after being left behind. Someone said they’d come back for him… and they didn’t. Weeks passed. Then he ended up here. And he’s just been waiting ever since. He’s overwhelmed. The shelter is loud and chaotic and he’s never had a chance to settle or feel safe. What you’re seeing is stress — not who he is. A puppy who never was able to grow up with stability or love. He needs an experienced, calm home where he can decompress. No kids. Just patience, structure, and time. Slow intros with resident dogs & a nurturing environment. He is a volunteer and staff favorite, but seeing him suffer like this day after day is painful. 💔 Splot is scheduled to be euthanized tomorrow if no foster or adopter steps up. This dog has barely lived. Please don’t let this be the end. If you can foster or adopt him to to save his life, please come directly to DeKalb County animal services. 📍 3280 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd., Atlanta, GA Deadline is 2/5 7 pm. Let’s get him seen. Let’s get him home. #urgentdogs #atlanta #fyp

💔 Brodie Is Not Okay 💔 We went to visit our sweet boy and brought him some goodies and we also brought a dog with us. Because Brodie has been solo for so long in boarding, we needed to circle back to his sociability and see how he would respond. The moment he saw us, he lit up. Running. Bouncing. Soaking up every ounce of attention. And when he saw the other dog? He was happy. Excited. He wanted to engage. He wanted to play. Unfortunately, the dog we brought was intimidated by Brodie’s size and energy and wasn’t interested in interacting. But what we did see was this: Brodie still wants connection. He still wants to be social. He still wants life. And then we had to leave him. That part never gets easier. Brodie is declining in boarding. His tail is splitting from repeatedly hitting the kennel walls. He’s growing depressed. He howls for attention. This is not who he is, this is confinement. When we pulled him injured from the streets, we never imagined he would end up living in a kennel for months. He survived so much just to be stuck again. 🚨 We are DESPERATELY seeking: • A committed foster • Rescue placement • A loving adopter Brodie needs out. Now. He needs structure, decompression, and a human who won’t walk away at the end of visiting hours. If you can help, please email us immediately. Info@becauseofroscoe.org Sharing this post could be the difference between Brodie continuing to decline or finally getting the chance he deserves. 🙏

Callie 🤍 Callie came into Devore Shelter with her brother, Winston. One intake photo. One shared history. One familiar presence in a place that suddenly felt nothing like home. Now there is a kennel door between them. Rows of noise. Concrete floors. The kind of separation they don’t understand. When I stood in front of Callie’s kennel, she looked at me the way so many dogs here do, searching your face for answers you don’t have. She wasn’t putting on a performance. She wasn’t shutting down either. She was just there, present, trying to make sense of it. Taking in every movement in the hallway. Listening. Waiting. What gets to you is knowing she did not walk into this building alone. Somewhere else in this same shelter is the dog who came in with her. The one who knows her scent, her pace, her past. And now they sleep in separate runs, adjust separately, cope separately. This is how stories split if no one steps in. One gets adopted. One gets left. Or time simply runs out. They are both available right now. That means someone could change everything tomorrow. Someone could decide that keeping them together matters. That they deserve to walk out the same way they walked in. Callie does not need another day in this building wondering where her brother is. She needs a door to open. She needs a home. Sometimes a dog will come to the shelter and just…shut down. The shelter environment can be high stress, loud and at times chaotic. Some dogs just don’t handle it very well. They succumb to fear, anxiety, and sometimes even heartbreak. They struggle here, day after day. There’s very little we can do but take our time with them. Give them affection. Give them space. And hope for the best. This is Evelyn (A569193). Our vets put her at anywhere between 8-10 years old. It’s hard to tell with Evelyn, because of the way she has shut herself down here. Our vets have checked her out , and while there doesn’t seem to be anything physically wrong with her, there is definitely more going on there behind those sad eyes. She’s been at our shelter now for almost a month, and very little has changed. She doesn’t seem to be in pain. She can walk and move when she needs to. And we’ve watched her multiple times cuddling and seeking comfort from her kennel mate. But Evelyn has closed off the rest of the world. In play groups she lays quietly, away from the pack. When we take her out for yard time, she refuses to walk or explore outside. Evelyn prefers to sit quietly, allowing gentle petting, with eyes closed, letting out deep sighs. Most of the time she won’t get up to go back to her kennel, and has to be carried back. It seems almost as if Evelyn is just…very, very sad. We don’t know anything about her. She was a stray, and at first she was called in as injured because of how little she moved around. We quickly realized that this was Evelyn all the time. Gentle, slow, and maybe just taking her time, healing in her heart. She’s been nothing but sweet and calm the entire month she’s been here. But we can’t help but wonder if this is the real Evelyn, or if there is another dog buried deep inside, longing to come out. We’re hoping that the love of a good owner, a safe and quiet home, maybe that’s all this sweet girl needs. We’d love to see her happy side; watch her run after a toy, or snuggle eagerly into a pile of soft blankets. We know for Evelyn, happiness is just an adoption away. Let’s get her seen. Let’s get her home. #adoptlove #shelterdogs #adoptashelterdog

🚨 **URGENT –Magnolia just barely arrived at MCACC — and she’s already been given a deadline. If she isn’t adopted by 2/17, they will end her life.‼️ This sweet girl is so much more than a few shelter notes. 💔 Staff says she: • Solicits attention • Takes treats gently • Allows pets all over • Knows “sit” • Ignores other dogs when walking past kennels • Is a **“Sweet gal!”** When the barking dies down, she comes over for pets and leans in. She just needs a moment to feel safe. Imagine how overwhelming the shelter must feel — the noise, the unfamiliar faces, the fences. Magnolia paces and scans the fence line, not because she’s “bad,” but because she’s stressed and trying to figure out where she is. She settles when she can potty or when someone offers kindness. She's been given a deadline because per the shelter she has escape and flight risk behavior (yup- that's what she can lose her life for) She deserves a yard with tall, secure fencing and a family who understands that decompression is real. She deserves patience. She deserves safety. She deserves life. Right now, she has a date instead of a future. Please don’t let Magnolia’s story end before it begins. 📞 Call **602-834-4911** with questions Time is short. Sharing could save her life. 🐾 Her ID is #A5159236 She is about 5 yrs old and 46 lbs. Yoda has been at the shelter since December 1st. She came in as a stray, and nobody ever came looking for her. She is inly 4 years old. The longer she stays there, the more I worry about her. The shelter is loud and overwhelming. For some people, it might feel like a lot to walk her at first because she has so much built up energy. But I do not see a bad dog. I see a stressed dog who just needs help releasing everything she is holding inside. The day we made this video, I asked Donna @bella_hersibbies , another Cobb County volunteer, to help me get a video for Yoda and help me get her energy out. Donna ran with her. We stayed outside with Yoda for a long time. We let her move, run, and breathe. And she changed. After she was able to get that energy out, she relaxed. She softened. By the time we put her back in her kennel, she was already so much calmer. That is the Yoda I see. Sweet. Gentle. Trying. I honestly have no idea how she would be around other dogs because she barks at them when we are on our walks. It is hard to know who she truly is in this environment. But if you have a dog and you are interested in helping Yoda, please bring your dog to the shelter for a meet and greet so we can see how they do together. She is on the urgent list, and I am very worried about her. With so many people in this country, I truly believe there has to be one person who is willing to give Yoda a chance. Someone patient. Someone kind. Someone willing to work with her and show her what safety feels like. She is listed as a pit bull, but she is very small and even looks like she could have some French Bulldog in her. Whatever her mix is, she deserves the chance to be understood and loved. Please come meet Yoda. Please share her story. She needs someone to see her heart. • • #sharinglove #dog #rescue #frenchie #pitbull
