Russell’s viper is identified by its triangular distinct head, a yellowish-brown body with a pattern of three rows of large, oval-shaped dark spots running along its back. A Russell’s viper is often confused with an Indian rock python. They primarily sense their prey through a combination of excellent smell, using their forked tongue to pick up scent molecules. Although they lack the specialized ‘pit organs’ found in some other viper species, they can still detect heat from their prey through sensitive nerve endings in the area between their nostrils and eyes. . .
