BLEggshell parents are always unpredictable, creating an environment where our sense of safety depends on treading cautiously to avoid setting off their emotional reactions. These parents may be hypersensitive, reacting strongly to seemingly minor issues, leading us to feel constantly on edge. Having an eggshell parent is usually psychologically damaging because it creates a constant state of uncertainty and heightened vigilance in us. We are more at risk for developing anxiety, experiencing stress, and a deep fear of triggering negative reactions in others. This can hinder our emotional expression, erode our self-esteem, and impede healthy communication into adulthood. DII am so sorry if you resonate. It’s so difficult to explain this to someone. They are always like “you should be proud of yourself, you made your mom happy!” But they don’t know you almost lost yourself trying to make her happy.
There are days looking back when you don’t even know how you are still alive. I had to move countries to get better and now I love her from afar.

Here is what you need to know and how these two concepts are linked together👇
Essentially it’s an emotionally immature parent. Even more specifically, eggshell parenting is when children feel like they have to walk on eggshells around their unpredictable parents to avoid setting off emotional outbursts. 💣
Eggshell parents are inconsistent and may blame their children for their reactions. Kids with eggshell parents can’t predict their parents’ reactions due to inconsistent triggers. These parents may overreact and have unclear boundaries with their children. 🧨
Eggshell parents can create children (& adult children) who worry about upsetting others because they have learned to be hyper-aware of people’s emotions and reactions from a young age.
When children witness their parents becoming upset or hurt over small things, they typically become hyper-vigilant in trying to avoid similar situations with others to prevent causing pain or conflict.
This constant concern about upsetting others can become ingrained in their behavior and perception of relationships, leading to a tendency to prioritize others’ feelings over their own and to fear the consequences of causing disappointment or distress in others.
* You don’t have to have an eggshell parent to be highly attuned to and concerned with others perceptions of you. Some other examples might be high sensitivity, or ADHD with rejection sensitivity, etc. *
