Genesis 12:2–3 is not a blanket scripture used to justify and excuse all the wrongdoings of modern-day Israel.
I’ve often thought about how to respond when ZioChristians use this mantra:
“Whoever blesses you will be blessed, and whoever curses you will be cursed.” — Genesis 12:3
If we interpret this properly — through exegesis rather than by projecting our own assumptions — this promise was spoken to Abraham within a covenant context, not to a 21st-century geopolitical state of Israel as a blanket immunity clause.
Paul the Apostle makes it even clearer in Galatians 3:16 — Abraham’s “seed,” not “seeds,” meaning one person, ultimately pointing to Jesus Christ; through Him we are all blessed.
So no — this verse cannot be used as a spiritual shield to silence criticism of injustice.
Scripture itself shows Israel being judged when acting unrighteously — Deuteronomy 28.
The prophets confronted corruption. Jesus rebuked religious hypocrisy in Matthew 23.
Supporting righteousness is biblical.
Blind allegiance to Israel is not.
Using Genesis 12:3 as a political weapon is not faithful to Scripture.
It should not be used to excuse or cover up wrongdoing.
Jesus also said that some Pharisees were not truly of Abraham but belonged to the devil (John 8:44).
The book of Revelation also speaks of those who claim to be Jews but are not, referring to them as the “synagogue of Satan” (Revelation 2:9; 3:9).
