Defender Octa might be the fastest production vehicle off the road. But it’s also incredible at the gnarly rock crawling stuff
Over the regular Defender ground clearance is up 28mm to 313mm. Water wading is up from 900mm to a full meter. These are 20-inch aggressively off-road Goodyear tyres. Approach angle has improved from 40 to 43 degrees. There’s added underbody protection. The dampers give it 100mm more axle articulation. The roll centre is unchanged. And there’s 750Nm of torque from the twin-turbo V8 to climb up whatever and wherever
This is all in low-ratio and the Defender Octa makes it all look easy! Just follow the spotter, tickle the throttle, and easy-peasy. And this is the production-spec Octa, nothing extra on it (apart from recovery gear on the lead cars)
I love the way Land Rover uses all natural terrain, no made up tracks or anything (and they leave it in the same condition they found it in, no messing things up). For sheer breath of capability nobody does it better
