IKEA PAX hack 🙌🏽 The B U I L D stage Steps: 1. Using timber (we used 3x2) build a frame for the IKEA units to sit on. 2. Build IKEA units 🔨 (we used a 100cm and 50cm wide wardrobe frame with the FORSAND door) 3. Confirm and double check position of everything 👍🏽 4. Secure timber framing to the floor (we have wooden floors so used standard screws) 5. Secure IKEA units to the wall and build framework above to secure to ceiling joists. To create the ‘pocket door’ we one of the units off the wall and secured above and below. This allowed space behind for the door to slide into. 6. Build timber frame around the outside and use 18mm plywood to create new built in framework 7. Cut plywood to size to fix around the doors of the IKEA unit. We countersinked the screws so we could create a seamless look. 8. How much did we spend on our IKEA PAX HACK CLOSET project?! Here is a breakdown of all the costs. We did everything ourselves so no labor cost nor equipment was added: - Base Structure (2x4s. You need to do this in order to lift the closet to fit the baseboard): $32 - @ikeausa Pax Wardrobe System (this is the most costly because you have to buy additional accessories to build your closet.. the amount of drawers, shelfs, and pull outs will determine how much it will cost): $1,720 - Closet Doors (I bought @ikea Forsand doors because it was much easier to work with them than build my own. This includes soft closing hinges and push to open system as well): $780 - Top Structure (consists of 2x4s and drywall to closet empty space between top of closet and ceiling. By doing this creates a flush finish and a more built in look.. very controversial decision as most said I wasted an empty space.. that is true but I was on a tight timeline and didn’t need the extra space): $27 - Baseboard & Crown Moulding (the reason we raise the closet is to add baseboard all around the closet. It creates that built-in effect and looks so so good!): $75 - Wall Accent Trim (we love this type of wainscoting and adding this was the cherry on top of the cake! Definitely worth doing! Make sure to consider how the doors open and close when adding the moulding, as this can affect your ability to properly open the door): $300 - Paint (VERY VERY IMPORTANT!!! If you paint over Ikea furniture, you need to use a strong bonding primer. If you use any other type of primer the paint will not stick and chip over time! Make sure to use INSL-X STIX Primer): $125 TOTAL COST: $3,060 This price does not include labor or equipment used since I already owned most of the tools. How we made our Ikea Pax look built in. I’ve had so many questions since I first shared this Pax hack so here is the process in a little more detail. ➡️ the wooden frame creates a solid base and gives the height for me to add skirting board along the bottom ➡️ you can use any size of timber or MDF that suits your space and project ➡️ coving to the top was a personal preference which we secured using coving adhesive ➡️ a good paint finish is all in the preparation! ➡️ I used an intelligent satin wood (all in one), otherwise I would recommend an undercoat after priming ➡️ colour is ‘slaked lime dark’ by @littlegreenepaintcompany ➡️ hardware are in aged bronze finish from @doorhandlecompany by @fromtheanvil #paxhack #ikeahack #houserenovation #diyprojects #ikeapaxwardrobe #ikeahome #ikeapax #moderncountryinteriors #diyhomedecor #spraypainting #slakedlimedark #littlegreenepaint #housetohome #homerenovation #neutraldecor

Gebruik hiervoor een primer bestemd voor hout, metaal en kunststof. Stucen: Je kunt er ook voor kiezen om niet te stucen maar mdf platen te gebruiken en die te verven alleen dan krijg je de hoeken niet mooi strak. Door een wat dikkere muur te maken en te stucen creëer je meer het effect van een inbouwkast. Wil je nog iets anders weten? 🤎

Months of planning, measuring, and making choices, followed by weeks of back-breaking installation. From dreaming of custom cabinetry to hacking Ikea Pax using clever ideas to achieve a custom finish at a fraction of the cost, we cherished every bit of this hectic journey. Bei einer 50 cm Tür gebt ihr bei der Bestellung 49,5 cm an. Bei einer 75 cm Tür, gebt ihr 74,5 cm an! Je Tür 0,5 cm weniger! _____________________ Auf die meist gestellte Frage, woher der Schrank bzw. die Fronten sind, habe ich nun versucht Euch die Antworten und den Bestellprozess in einem Reel zusammenzufassen. Wir haben uns hier gegen Griffe und für Push-to-Open entscheiden. Trotz der Höhe, klappt das einwandfrei! Den Bereich zwischen Schrankende (2,36m) und Decke (2,58m ) nutzen wir als zusätzlichen Stauraum für Dinge, die man vielleicht 1x im Jahr braucht. Ich liebe die cleane Optik so sehr und würde es immer wieder so machen✨ gerade im Hinblick auf die Kosten! Ja, Ikea ist nicht die Qualität eines Schreiners, aber ich finde den Unterschied echt krass! It took a long time and I’m sure someone will come along in the comments and tell us we did it wrong but Will did so well building this 👏🏻 Part two coming soon - I had to split it as it was getting long! Let me know if you have any questions about anything and I’ll try to answer them ☺️ Make sure you are allowing for air flow and don’t fully block the back and sides, especially against an outside wall. IKEA Pax Hack Thought I’d reshare this little IKEA hack we did in Jan 2023 before we embark on a similar quest in the alcoves in our dining room! First we used 2x1 to build a frame for the pax wardrobe to sit on. This meant that the wardrobe was the right height from the floor so we could add skirting board to the front to help with getting the built in look we were aiming for. After making sure it was level we then framed the outside of the wardrobe and secured it to the wall at each side. We used MDF to panel it along with the skirting board, again giving it the built in look we desired. I sanded and primed the doors before painting everything in the same colour. You don’t have to spend a fortune to get that designer look. Here is my tutorial for elevating a basic pax wardrobe. Will I be finished for Christmas? Hoping for a Christmas miracle! 1) Measure the space and make a frame for the wardrobe to sit on. You can get this from your local time yard and they will cut it to size. You can design the wardrobe on the Ikea app and they provide an image for reference. 2) Put the 3x2s on the floor to make the base. You’ll also need some MDF to fill the space at the side and top. To give that fitted look. 3) Build your pax frames and then add them onto the base created from the 3x2s 4) add the MDF to the side and top. 5) are all the KOMPLEMENT elements. 6) Caulk, prime and paint all the MDF. (My next job is to prime and paint once the caulk has set) 7) add your handles (admittedly I’ve not even chosen any yet!) 8) you will have beautiful bespoke fitted wardrobe for a fraction of the price. Price breakdown £427.00 for the Ikea wardrobe and all the komplement elements. £21 for the 3x2’s and £16 for the MDF. I just need to buy the handles. I will be using primer and paint I already have.
