Vaṭṭeḻuttu continued untouched, unchanged, for centuries.
Then came the mighty Cholas—who didn’t just rule, they redefined borders!
By the 10th century, they had built one of the greatest South Indian empires.
With every step they expanded south, they carried Tamil along with them.
Temples, trade routes, and towns—echoed with the Tamil script and soul.
But westward? The story changed. Tamil didn’t spread that way.
So Vaṭṭeḻuttu lived on in the western regions...
...and eventually transformed into what we now call Malayalam.
