You Have to See This‼️😱 On the Oregon coast, the “kelp” you spot isn’t just one thing, it’s a whole lineup with different builds and life strategies. Some have a single big float “bulb” that works like a natural buoy, lifting their blades up into sunlight where they can photosynthesize fast, while others have lots of smaller floats along the fronds, and some don’t have floats at all and stay lower in the water. They don’t have roots like land plants. They grip rocks with a tough holdfast that acts like an anchor, not a straw, and the flexible stipe bends with waves so the kelp can survive heavy surf. Most start life as microscopic stages you’d never notice, then they grow into the big kelp we see, and when it’s time to reproduce they release massive clouds of cells into the water that settle, fuse, and restart the cycle. Those “bulbs” also help form floating mats when kelp breaks loose, which can become mini habitats for tons of tiny ocean life while it drifts. #learning #Science #education #nature
