LDI'm doing research for my column (for Disability Compliance for Higher Education, a @wiley_global journal) and thought folks might find it interesting to see what students with disabilities have to do at *some* universities to access their accommodations each semester. (Disability services offices don't assume students will use them each semester; students have to indicate that they will.) Notice that @carnegiemellon's office allows students not only to choose which professors will be alerted about their accommodations but also which ones they'll know about.
Not every college uses an online system; some send letters that students have to forward to professors. Whatever the process, students should know that they have choices, though they do take responsibility if they don't use accommodations in a class and aren't pleased with their outcomes.
