If you feel like you’re “addicted to food,” there’s a good chance what you’re actually experiencing is hunger. When your body is underfed, your brain is going to think about food a lot. It’s going to want food more often. Sometimes it’s going to feel really intense. And it can be easy to interpret that as a lack of control or a personal flaw. But a lot of the time it’s actually just your body doing exactly what it’s designed to do: trying to get the energy it needs. Food obsession, strong cravings, feeling like you could eat everything in sight… those things often calm down once your body starts trusting that it’s being nourished consistently. My body was just missing what it needed to function. For years I was depleted… low in minerals, low in iodine, exhausted, losing my hair, dealing with hormone imbalances… And instead of asking why, I was told to just manage it. A new report from the USDA showed shocking animal abuse at the Miami Seaquarium. Many dolphins were underfed and underweight and one dolphin had lost more than 100 pounds. Nine of these dolphins were put on severely restrictive diets without consulting a veterinarian, all so that they would perform for guests. It’s also stated in the report that these diets may have led to dolphins becoming aggressive and attacking each other. Cruelty and neglect are for me are the same thing. These three gentle souls were rescued by the wonderful Kasey @wunderdogrescue_ and needed to be checked over asap. Clearly having been underfed for sometime, these dogs have all the extreme conformational changes that the British Bulldog has been bred to possess, leading to life long discomfort and significant breathing difficulties. After cataloguing their many issues today, Percy, Penny and Pearl will begin the long process of improving their condition before I begin correcting some of their issues with necessary surgery. Most people blame training when they feel flat. ㅤ But here’s the uncomfortable truth: you’re probably not overtraining... you’re under-recovering. ㅤ A lot of people wake up tired, stressed, underfed, under slept, then point at the gym like it’s the villain in the movie. ㅤ Meanwhile, exercise itself is actually shown to improve sleep quality, reduce anxiety, and boost overall wellbeing. Even a single bout of moderate to vigorous physical activity can have immediate benefits. ㅤ So before you say, “I need to skip training because I’m exhausted,” look at the real recovery leaks: ㅤ 💤 Sleep: poor sleep can impair strength, speed, performance, and recovery more than most people realise. ㅤ 🍪 Nutrition: if you’re under-eating, under-fuelling, or living on caffeine and chaos, your body has nothing to rebuild with. ㅤ 😖 Stress: your body does not separate “life stress” from “training stress” nearly as neatly as you think. Chronic stress stacks fast. ㅤ Training isn’t the thing draining you. Training is often the thing revealing what’s missing. ㅤ So no... you probably don’t need less movement. You probably need better recovery. ㅤ How’s your recovery really looking right now: sleep, food, or stress?
