JVI managed to film this beautiful abstract footage in 2021 right after a large lava fountain had erupted & the leftover liquid lava inside the crater settled down. It shows off how incredibly beautiful the inside of the main crater of the Geldingadalir eruption really was. That eruption is still my favourite one to date, thanks to the endless photographic possibilities it offered. Some think this footage looks like the sun but to me, it resembles a beating heart with veins leading outwards, breathing life into the new landscape. What you actually see is see the lava slowly coming up from the depths of the earth within. #iceland
📷 I recorded this with my DJI Mavic 2 Pro & I flew almost inside the crater to get it. This was only possible during very windy days as the strong winds pushed the rising heat away, which allowed me to fly very low without sustaining damage. What you see is not a zoom effect in post-processing, I actually flew that low. It was a nerve-racking flight but I was so happy when I got my drone back unscathed with this footage on it.

MOLa lava ha raggiunto la RN2 alle 05:53 (ora locale) di stamattina. Tre ore dopo, un secondo braccio ha tagliato la strada poco più a sud. In giornata è probabile che arrivino altri flussi secondari che stanno avanzando più lentamente.
Da questo punto, la lava deve percorrere ancora 700 m prima di raggiungere l'oceano. Non è ancora chiaro se ci riuscirà, dipende molto dalla costanza dell'eruzione, in caso affermativo, andrebbe a formare un nuovo delta lavico, che contribuirebbe ad espandere la superficie dell'isola.
Piccola curiosità: l'avanzata della colata è stata monitorata in tempo reale dai vulcanologi insieme alle autorità locali, il che ha permesso a piccoli gruppi di turisti di assistere da vicino allo spettacolo, con la lava che scorreva a poche centinaia di metri.

JVThis is an extreme close-up of liquid lava bursting out of an already solidified lava crust. At the bottom you can see the lava roll over a previous crust which had formed. This reel shows really well the different colours and viscosity lava can have. I really enjoy the colour gradients in this footage. The textures and movement often remind me of molten cheese or fresh bread which is slowly being pulled apart. This is recorded in real-time so you see the actual speed of it - no post-processing trickery here. Fun fact: you might think the footage isn’t always sharp but it’s actually the heat shimmer which distorts the air around the lava. #iceland

The wrath of Pele, the goddess of fire.
On the last day on big island in Hawai’i we got to see some of the mightiest forces of nature i have ever witnessed, roaring beams of molten rock stretching 1000ft / 300m into the sky.
I would say i am probably above average fascinated with nature and her forces and spent a big chunk of my life wrestling with king winter, this felt like the Hawaiian goddess of fire saying “now go home to the north and tell your frozen gods about me.”
Not AI, just good old mother earth.

RAL’Etna torna a farsi sentire con un’eruzione e soprattutto con il crollo di una parete rocciosa. Nella notte tra il 1 e il 2 giugno è iniziata un’intensa attività al cratere di Sud Est, accompagnata da un progressivo incremento del tremore vulcanico. Nella mattina del 2 giugno una parte del cratere è crollata, è quella che gli addetti ai lavori chiamano “collasso di materiale” che ha interessato il fianco settentrionale del cratere di Sud Est e ha prodotto un notevole flusso di materiale vulcanico.

ILUna consistente e alta, almeno alcuni chilometri, nube eruttiva sovrasta l’Etna. A provocarla, secondo l’Istituto nazionale di geofisica e vulcanologia osservatorio etneo, di Catania, sarebbe stato un flusso piroclastico probabilmente prodotto da un collasso di materiale del fianco settentrionale del cratere di Sud-Est.
Il materiale caldo, da osservazioni preliminari, sembra non avere oltrepassato l’orlo della Valle del Leone. Contestualmente, l’attività esplosiva dal cratere di Sud-Est è passata a fontana di lava. Il tremore vulcanico ha raggiunto valori molto alti. Il centroide delle sorgenti è nell’area del cratere di Sud-Est.
