I just started tracking the word count on my current WIP - it’s actually great motivation to get words written! I didn’t want to be focused on the numbers, just the process, but the numbers are actually awesome. I think I forgot how competitive I can be, and now it’s a competition to get higher word counts. Then I can worry about quality… After 😬 (the quality isn’t bad, I can already see improvement, but by the time I get to editing I’ll probably think it sucks!) #wordcount #writingcommunity #author #writingabook #slowprogressisstillprogress

I passed my weekly word count goal, hit my daily goal almost every day, and then thanks to my amazing husband snuck away today so I could pass 50k words total in my manuscript. Week 11 recap. 2,168 words written (goal was 3,000). My siblings were in town for the Super Bowl, and between hosting and my full-time job, writing sessions were shorter than usual. Instead of pushing for more words, I cleaned up three chapters of Act 1. Each one brings me closer to being able to share the first act with beta readers. Total word count: 72,176 😮🤯 Some weeks are about drafting. Some weeks are about strengthening the foundation. Some are also about regrouping and enjoying life (Go Hawks! See my new keyboard colors? ♥️) All of this move the story forward. #writingchallenge #firsttimewriter #momwriter

Week 10 recap. 6,029 words written, bringing the total to 69,783. I wrote every day this week. Some chapters flowed easily, others asked for more balance and precision — and a lot of quiet layering work. Going back to add missing beats reminded me (once again) that first drafts are meant to be built upon, not perfect on arrival. And honestly, I really enjoyed that process. It felt like weaving in ends on a huge knitting WIP. This relationship is starting to feel very real on the page, and next week I’m entering a turning point I’ve been excited (and a little nervous) to write. Almost 70k words in… and still very much enjoying the ride.
