KOWashington state's first hybrid-electric ferry has been temporarily taken out of service due to mechanical issues.
The Wenatchee ferry, which rejoined the fleet on July 24 after a 22-month conversion to a hybrid-electric system, experienced motor issues as it was docking at Seattle's Colman Dock shortly after 10 a.m. on Friday, according to WSF.
Officials tell KOMO News that two of the ferry's four drive motors briefly went offline. John Vezina, WSF Deputy Director, emphasized that the issue is not related to the ferry's hybrid-electric nature.
The ferry was moved to Eagle Harbor on Bainbridge Island for further inspection.

WSYou may have seen this video our employee shot from Issaquah during rough seas Tuesday near the Strait of Juan de Fuca. We were moving the vessel without passengers from our Eagle Harbor Maintenance Facility to Anacortes. Thanks to good seamanship on the part of captain and crew, damage was minimal. This has no effect on service. Ferry will replace Chelan in the San Juan Islands by the weekend. Oh, and sorry about some of the language in the video. #wsdot #wsf #washingtonstateferries #roughseas #yikes
