Amazon Web Services (#AWS) went down earlier today and took many important services across the internet down with it. Several fixes have been deployed, though outages are still affecting a swath of services. Collectively reports on Downdetector hit a high of over 50,000 reports starting around 7:50 am. For the unaware, AWS is crucial backbone of the internet acting as infrastructre for apps and websites the likes of Snapchat, Venmo, Ring, Pokémon GO and more are also down because of AWS’ outage. Websites and services across the United States and around the world were recovering early Monday after a problem at a major cloud computing service left leading games, publishers and streaming platforms unusable to millions. Amazon Web Services, a major provider of cloud hosting that underpins much of the web and everyday online tools, went offline because of a problem with one its core database products, the company said. The outage affected users of sites ranging from Snapchat to the McDonald's app and Amazon's Ring doorbell cameras to gaming platforms Roblox and Fortnite. Amazon says they've identified the issue and are working to recover services. NBC’s Brian Cheung reports for TODAY. #TODAYShow
