AUWorking in wildlife rehabilitation is not an easy career. The reality is that there are more losses than releases, and that’s no fault of the rehabbers.
Animals often arrive in critical condition, and there are days where all you do is euthanize incoming patients. Animals with missing limbs, broken bones, poisoning, severe neurological damage, or injuries from well-meaning but illegal care.
Despite the weight of being the one who makes those decisions, I do so with as much kindness and compassion as I can give. Because they might not get released back to the wild, but at least I can release them from pain. Pain that was, almost always, caused by humans.
But there are successes. Bones that can be fixed. Neurological symptoms that can be treated. Wounds that heal. Orphans raised without losing their wild instincts.
That’s what happened with these two bobcats. Ten months of rehabilitative care, and then release. Back to the wild, where they were always meant to be.
And I hope they’re thriving out there. ❤️

HAThey do more than just care for wildlife.
Every animal admitted offers a glimpse into what is happening in our neighborhoods and the natural spaces around them. Wildlife rehabilitators are the ones who recognize those signals and help protect the connection between wildlife, people, and the places we share.
This is the work happening every day at the HARP Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.
In 2025 alone, our team cared for more than 4,100 wild patients across over 130 species. Our staff and volunteers also responded to more than 5,700 calls from the public, helping neighbors understand what to do when they encounter wildlife in need.
Behind that care is an incredible team. Volunteers contributed more than 15,000 hours supporting wildlife rehabilitation, helping care for patients, and guiding the public through wildlife encounters.
Thank you to our wildlife rehabilitation team and volunteers for your dedication, your passion, and the compassion you bring to this work every single day.

SAThis time of year, the Ondrako Critter Crew always grows (temporarily) in population as we work to help save orphaned and injured Wildife.
Wildlife that often needs human intervention, because of human intervention - namely habitat destruction. All those plots being cleared this time of year? They are displacing countless mamas and babies - raccoons, opossums, squirrels, and so on.
Have a chat with your city councilman, your mayor, and ask for developers to be required to give back to the wildlife they wipe out with every forest they knock over to build their new neighborhood or custom spec homes. They’re often responsible for the orphans so shouldn’t they be responsible for helping to replenish the populations important to our ecosystems?

Recently, Marty, one of our longest residents at the sanctuary, underwent his annual veterinary check. Our veterinary team measured his weight, took his vital signs and collected blood samples for laboratory testing.
Annual health checks like these help us monitor each animal’s wellbeing, build a clear picture of their health over time and spot any early signs of illness before they become more serious.
