Apesar de parecerem insignificantes, eles aumentam o atrito com a água, fazendo a embarcação gastar mais combustível e perder eficiência na navegação. Além disso, esse acúmulo pode acelerar o desgaste do metal do casco e ainda contribuir para o transporte de espécies invasoras entre diferentes regiões do oceano. There are all sorts of #barnacles, #mussels, #amphipods, #caprellids (skeleton shrimp), and more growing on it that certainly aren’t going to be taken to market. 😮 Biofouling organisms are super cool, but too much growth can lead to all sorts of problems. Biofouling on farm gear or scientific equipment can lead to damage, faulty readings, or instrument failure.
