OUI added a lot of upgrades to our laundry room because we don’t have any extra closet space in our home. This laundry room houses all our linens, cleaning products, art supplies, wrapping supplies and all the little things! We needed to fit A LOT in here! This is the only room we went to the ceiling with cabinets and I don’t regret it! Some people think it’s wasted space, but we store all our extra guest pillows and comforters at the top that we don’t use all the time!

SHHome build update - framing day ✔️🔨🏗️Watching the walls go up made everything feel so real. Our builder, @campbellcustomhome uses the Wausau system which means that the wall panels that were framed up in factory in Wausau have been shipped down and framed together on site. They already have the windows installed, the quality is amazing and the process goes by so much faster 🙌🏻 So excited for the next phases. Still can’t believe this is happening!

HOThings no one warned me about before building a custom home 👇
1️⃣ Every decision feels small…until it isn’t. The trim profile, outlet placement, or grout color might not seem like a big deal, but they add up to the overall look and functionality.
2️⃣ Your builder will ask for answers faster than you can make them. Having a design plan (or even a Pinterest board) ready before breaking ground saves a lot of stress later.
3️⃣ Budgets change fast. Between change orders, upgrades, and “while we’re at it” moments, build in a 10–15% cushion for surprises.
4️⃣ You’ll learn what truly matters to you. For some it’s a big kitchen, for others a view or storage. Prioritize those things early, you’ll thank yourself later.
Building a home is equal parts fun and overwhelming, but knowing what’s coming helps you stay sane and end up with a house you actually love living in.

STThe stone mason couldn’t believe we asked for this:
We chose natural stone veneer which if far cheaper upfront and to install than full bed stone.
Most people go to a stone yard or showroom and choose just one stone product for their home
…Not us.
One sure way to help your home stand the test of time is to do something no one else has that can’t be identified and associated with being popular during a particular time period.
We blended TWO stone products and…. TWO secret requests that made our mason think we were crazy, but that he ultimately loved:

1. Exterior stone has different names depending on the supplier. We got our stone from @beehivebrickandstone in Utah. (**They can tell you stone types so you can ask your local stone supplier what product they have that would match.)
2. We did 80% Essex stone, which is about the cheapest stone around. It is very gray, very modern, and linear. Our home is not modern, so we had the masonry workers use their hammers to whack the edges off for a more rough and random look. 🤎
3. We added 20% Bonneville stone, which has whites, creams, and a touch of warmth. No hammer whacking needed.
4. SECRET METHOD FOR A CUSTOM LOOK: We asked the stone Mason workers to turn random pieces VERTICAL… something they had never done with natural stone before, though you can find it in faux stone occasionally. Maybe it’s an Utah thing, and masons turn stone vertical elsewhere.
5. Today’s popular mortar grouting means having the mortar flush or over-grouted on the stone. We asked for it to be 1/2-1inch recessed. (Another was we avoid putting a timestamp on our home.)
