Your upper body and core control how force is created, transferred and absorbed. 1️⃣ Acceleration The core transfers force from the legs to the upper body, allowing you to project forward and explode into your first steps. 2️⃣ Deceleration When you brake, the trunk must stabilize and control the force coming from the lower body. Without this control, you lose balance, speed and efficiency. 3️⃣ Upper Body Integration Arms, trunk and hips must work together to create rhythm, momentum and stability during high-speed movement. 🔥 Strong legs make you powerful. It’s the eccentric braking capacity of the kinetic chain that determines how efficiently an athlete can absorb, store, and reapply force. Controlled deceleration enhances motor unit recruitment in the eccentric phase, improving tendon stiffness and energy dissipation capacity. Inadequate braking mechanics increase joint shear forces and valgus stress — key contributors to ACL ruptures, tendinopathies, and overload syndromes. #deceleration #athletes

DECELERATION TRAINING . The ability to rapidly decelerate is often an overlooked quality during rehab and sports performance training. . Much emphasis is typically placed on developing concentric strength and power, and rightfully so. However, it’s important to note that nearly all injuries occur when an athlete is in the act of braking, not accelerating. . For this reason it’s vital that emphasis is also placed on improving eccentric rate of force development as well as improving overall neuromuscular control in both the rehab and strength & conditioning settings.
