TAThe court has dismissed all charges in the case related to the October 2022 fatal collision in Markham that resulted in the deaths of three members of the same family.
The victims: Pateeran Puvanendran (21), Neluxsana Puvanendran (23), and their mother Srirathy Shanmuganathan (52) — were involved in a collision with a dump truck at an intersection. The two siblings were pronounced dead at the scene, while their mother later died from her injuries.
On April 17, 2026, the court delivered its decision, finding that the legal threshold for criminal liability had not been met. All charges were dismissed in their entirety, with no convictions registered, including for lesser offences.
The case had proceeded to trial in early March 2026 at the Newmarket Courthouse, where both Crown and defence presented evidence and closing submissions prior to the ruling.
