If you’re buying one, make sure it has: • Loop recording (so it records over old footage automatically) • Front + rear cameras • A wide field of view • Impact/G-sensor protection But remember... Any dash cam is better than none. Evidence wins cases.

Episode 4 of Automotive Informants dives into something that’s getting a lot of attention lately… the “Transparency Score” from CarEdge. On the surface, it sounds great. Consumers want transparency. Dealers should be clear about pricing. No argument there. But when you actually look at how the score is calculated, the model starts to break down. For example: A dealer only receives 100 points if their doc fee is $499 or less. Anything higher immediately lowers the score. Add-ons? You lose significant points if they exist at all. Dealer markup above certain thresholds? More points disappear. So the reality is this: This isn’t really a transparency score. It’s much closer to a “no add-ons and low fees” score. Transparency means the customer clearly understands what they’re paying for. It doesn’t mean dealers can’t have a doc fee. It doesn’t mean dealers can’t offer products that provide real value. At one group I worked with, theft-tracking devices helped recover 54 stolen vehicles. The customers who got their vehicles back were pretty glad the product existed. The conversation shouldn’t be about eliminating fees or products. It should be about clear disclosure, fair pricing, and letting the customer decide. Transparency is clarity. Not price control.
