IAWhen Mirabel stands in front of Abuela as the house is cracking and says,
“The miracle is dying because of you.”
That wasn’t rebellion.
That was an Enneagram 2 finally telling the truth.
Abuela is a Type 1 shaped by trauma.
She survived violence.
She lost everything.
Her nervous system learned:
If I keep this family perfect, we survive.
So she built a culture around:
• Excellence
• Responsibility
• Usefulness
• Sacrifice
• Protecting the image
Because for a 1 under stress:
Right = safe.
Perfect = protected.
But trauma that isn’t processed
turns into pressure.
And pressure gets renamed “legacy.”
Now look at Mirabel.
She’s not the strongest.
Not the most gifted.
Not the most impressive.
She’s the helper.
Classic Type 2.
2s scan the room and ask:
Who needs me?
How do I keep us connected?
What can I give so I still belong?
But here’s the shadow:
They over-function emotionally.
They earn love through usefulness.
They carry tension that isn’t theirs.
And when it’s still not enough?
It shatters them.
Mirabel feels the cracks first
because 2s are relational barometers.
They feel disconnection before anyone names it.
So when she confronts Abuela, it’s not disrespect.
It’s grief.
It’s a 2 saying:
“I have loved this family with everything I have.
And this pressure is still crushing us.”
The house didn’t collapse because she spoke up.
It collapsed because she stopped holding it up alone.
Healing didn’t begin when the magic returned.
It began when the grief was finally named.
