So much of the beauty industry we know today exists “because of Black creators”.
In this episode on the It Takes A Village podcast, @jackieaina names a truth that so many people try to rewrite: Black creators were the ones who put countless Black-owned brands on the map long before the industry cared, listened, or paid attention.
Before the PR lists and diversity commitments, there were creators calling out shade ranges, advocating for representation, and risking their careers in the process. Many were penalized, blackballed, or removed from PR lists, not rewarded for it.
Jackie reminds us that visibility today didn’t come from ‘trolling brands for attention’, it came from years of unpaid labor, truth-telling, and community support that forced the industry to evolve.

• Top Favorites: @mancera Roses Vanille (100/10), @forvrmood I am her (100/10), @kayali Fleur Majestic (10/10), Forvr mood Hard to get (10/10), @armanibeauty Si passione intense (15/10), @muglerofficial Alien hypersense (10/10), @phlur father figure, my absolute favorite, rated (1000/10),these gems stole the show! These are absolute must-haves for me.
• Great Additions: Mancera French Riviera, and @giardiniditoscana Bianco latte are solid picks with impressive scents, all scoring between 8-9/10.
• Mixed Feelings: @yslbeauty Libre Leau nue(7/10) and @glossier You (7/10) had great elements but weren’t top-tier for me.
• Not for Me: @definemefragrance Nearly Noon (1/10) was a miss—just didn’t work for my taste.
