THNew Zealand’s wealthiest citizen dropped out of school at 16 to work as a tow-truck driver and car repairman, then made some smart business decisions that led him to the purchase of a book and stationery shop chain.
Off the back of that, he expanded into paper packaging and food shipping companies - from there, his net worth has blossomed exponentially.
His latest yacht, the 102-metre (336’) Ulysses, was ordered in 2020 and delivered last year. We haven’t heard too much about her yet, but she looks to be a magical feat of engineering and technology. The “virtually obligatory” double-height engine room has been condensed into a single deck, and around 1,100 square metres of glass cover the Sinot-designed exterior of the yacht.
Quite a change from some of Hart’s former yachts, which were tough-as-nails explorers designed for conquering the oceans.
There is quite a nice line from the shipyard in an article which says “[The owner] wanted to be part of the team, which ordinarily is something we try to avoid, but he was fully prepared to collaborate and our working relationship ended up being both friendly and fun!”
The yacht also has a dog on deck as a permanent fixture 🐕 so you know the owner is cool!
