In fact, of the thousands of fruit and vegetable species cultivated for food, fewer than 200 make up a substantial part of food produced globally. Thousands of plant species and varieties that fed our ancestors are already extinct, and we are losing more every day. Diversity is our food’s life insurance. This is the most common deflection used to defend eating animals. 🌱 Yes, plants respond to stimuli. They bend toward sunlight, close their leaves, even release chemicals when attacked. But they don’t have a central nervous system, no brain, no pain receptors, and no evidence of conscious suffering. On the other hand, animals do. They run from harm. They cry, tremble, fight, mourn, remember, bond, and beg for mercy to be spared. So when someone says “plants have feelings too,” what they’re really saying is: “If anything feels, then it’s okay to hurt everyone.” That’s not logic. That’s just guilt trying to sound smart. And here’s the kicker: 📉 It takes way more plants to feed animals than to feed humans. In fact, over 75% of the world’s soy is fed to livestock, not people. If you’re worried about plant suffering, you should be vegan. Because the meat industry is killing both animals and plants at an industrial scale. Most of the world’s crops are fed to farmed animals, not people. It takes up to 16 kg of plants to produce 1 kg of meat. So if you care about plants - stop feeding them to animals you’re going to kill.
