But today’s guest, Dr Courtney Conley, says that by the time you’re injured - it’s already too late? Dr Courtney is an internationally renowned chiropractor who specialises in foot and gait mechanics (the way a person walks/runs). Courtney’s mission is to ensure that as many as possible people get to enjoy the physical, mental and emotional benefits of walking. She says 1 in 4 adults will fall and after the age of 50, your foot strength declines by 35%. And yet… we still prioritise how shoes look, not what they do. So in today’s conversation, we cover: - Why most foot pain doesn’t come from your feet? - Why modern footwear is making you weaker?! - The simple toe exercises that can prevent life-threatening falls. - How to choose the right shoes (and what to avoid)? - Why walking is the most powerful form of medicine we all have access to… And more. This conversation will give you more than just better feet, it will give you a better relationship with your body. When I discovered her work, it was a game changer for my foot health and also just from this conversation today, it feels like I now have a better understanding of how what I thought was largely irrelevant is having a big downstream impact on a bunch of things in the long run that I really, really care about. If swelling continues, consult a doctor to rule out underlying conditions. 🔹 Cold Feet: Constantly cold feet might mean poor blood flow, anemia, hypothyroidism, or even nerve damage. Boost circulation by gently massaging your feet, keeping them warm with socks, and staying active. Include iron- and B12-rich foods in your diet, and have your thyroid levels checked if the problem persists. 🔹 Non-Healing Sores: Wounds that don’t heal could be early signs of diabetes, neuropathy, or infections. Keep your feet clean and dry, avoid tight footwear, and never walk barefoot outdoors. Diabetic individuals should check their feet daily and visit a podiatrist for regular evaluations. 🔹 Cracked Heels: Cracks can be due to dry skin, vitamin deficiencies (like zinc or omega-3), or standing too long on hard surfaces. Soak your feet in warm water, exfoliate gently, and apply a thick moisturizer or petroleum jelly before bed. Wear supportive shoes and avoid open-backed footwear when possible. 🔹 Black Spots Under Nails: A dark spot might result from trauma, fungal infections, or in rare cases, melanoma (a type of skin cancer). Don’t ignore it — if the spot grows, changes color, or doesn’t heal, get it checked by a dermatologist immediately. 👣 Prevention Tips: • Maintain proper foot hygiene and moisturize daily. • Trim nails carefully to prevent infections. • Wear breathable shoes and cotton socks. • Stay hydrated and maintain a nutrient-rich diet for healthy skin.
