We loved our mini SUP adventure this weekend, exploring the winding waters of the Oxford canal. It was an out-and-back 11km paddle from the @thewharfinn in Penny Compton to the HS2 bridge. The pub is easily accessible from the M40 and only a 30-minute drive from @getsupandgoes in Stratford upon Avon, and they were really friendly too. As canals go, we found this one prettier and more interesting than most, quite wide through beautiful rolling countryside. The route we did had lots of pretty bridges but no portages, which suited our mood. The Oxford canal was one of the first, built before the main Industrial Revolution, so with very little money was done on the cheap. The locks and bridges are narrow and unlike most canals, which are more straight, this one has twists and turns, because it was easier to go around a hill than over. It was a social paddle really, but after a warm up, we enjoyed pushing ourselves and with my bestie’s support, it was good to feel like I’m finally starting to train for my two upcoming paddleboard races in April, Head of the Dart and Race to the Castle. I don’t feel as fit and ready as this time last year, so I don’t mind admitting I’m a bit apprehensive. Although I’m sure the strength training will be helping and there’s still time to go. By the time we got back to the pub we were feeling hungry and tucked in to the best fish ‘n chips, some of the crunchiest and fluffiest we’ve had 😋. #standuppaddleuk #suptours #paddleboarder #livelovesup #suptour
