ADOOOh, some hot new chips just dropped into our mailbox - ESP32-P4! 🔥🚀
Espressif's latest chip has a snazzy eval board, and we just snagged a couple for CircuitPython development. The P4 is a RISC V dual core 400MHz processor with CSI/DSI support, USB HS, and Ethernet too. This chip doesn't have BLE or WiFi like all the other ESP chips. Instead, it uses a low-cost ESP32-C5 module as a wireless co-processor. The eval board is sorta shaped like a Raspberry Pi and has various A/V connections. We also got 100 sample chips of the 16MB in-package PSRAM variety, so we can start designing our first board. Shall we do a Feather? a Metro? maybe a Pi Zero-shaped thingy?

ADThe first test for our WLED board codename "Sparkle Motion"
We got our WLED-friend PCBs today, and we only made one mistake: the wrong resistor on the 3.3V feedback line. Now that it's fixed, the board seems to work great with the latest version of WLED (https://kno.wled.ge/basics/tutorials/)! We are checking all 4 signal outputs with this handy 256-LED grid that sits on our desk. Next, we will test the onboard IR receiver, USB PD, I2S microphone, extra I/O pins, and I2C. We'll also do an Arduino IDE board definition in case folks want to use it as a generic ESP32-to-LED-driver board. We're calling the board "Sparkle Motion" for now, but if you have other naming ideas, let us know - if we pick your name, you get a free board (https://www.adafruit.com/product/6100). What didn’t take me so long to decide was the hardware for our home. The switches & plug sockets are by @corstonarchitecturaldetail a brand dedicated to attention to detail and tactility. Everyone wants to touch these switches when they come over!
I have used them throughout our home for continuity & a seamless design.
I went for the “bronze” colour way & as you can see from the Reel there are a lot of switches, I can’t deny that sometimes I still forget which one turns on which light.
